Finally bought my first short magnum....

Today did order from Prophet my first ever WSM, after reading on the rifle and exchanging with Clay, i decided to go with an FN Hernstal Tactical 300 WSM with green Hogue stock, after reading many reviews, it look to be a highly recommended rifle, now will see to get all a need to reload one nice 208 Amax pet load just below 3000 fps... Cool.... JP.

Grats on the rifle. Please share your load data when you get it sorted out. Testing 190 and 210 Berger in my 300wsm atm. Haven't tried the 208 yet.

I was shooting those 208 Amax out of my 308 Nemesis pushing them to a max of 2600 fps with very hot load, they were dead precise, now with a 300 WSM, i will hopefully make them shoot very precisely closer to 3000 fps for very long range work, those are real good ogives with a BC of 648... JP.

Sounds interesting. I know my 23" pipe would likely never make that velocity with a bullet of that weight.

R-17 bring up some incredible # in the 308 and 208 Amax, i will try to work with the Reloader serie in the 300 WSM... JP.

People have said some very good things about imr7828ssc and the 210's. Any idea on temp stability of RL17? How much do you lose in -10C? The other RL's I've worked with have all been terrible for losing speed in cold weather.

Temp stability is more a "peace of mind" issue than it is a practical issue.
Imagine how all us "older" hunters managed before we even heard about temp
stable powders.

Use what works best for you Caramel, and temp stability be damned.
Hope you find a load that works well.

FWIW, I am using RL 17 in my 300 WSM with great success.
But my load is a hunting load with the Hornady 165 GMX. Groups are fabulous, velocities impressive.

Those GMX 165 and TSX Barnes 165 are on my ordering list, i read the 165 is a natural in the 300 WSM... JP.

Have you looked at the 150gr etip? Same or better BC as the barnes/gmx 168/165gr versions and 3300fps ought to be doable. The 150gr etip is the mono for my 300 wsm.

Just bought a Swarovsky Z6 2.5 X15 X56 7A ( first time i get one of those ) to top my FN, after all the hunts are over, the load devellopment will be my priority for my long range rig... JP.
