Enfield No.4 Grovved VS plain rear handguards

Which No 4 versions used the grooved rear handguard wood? I have a 1944 BSA Shirley, and a SavageStevens, both sporter models that I am replacing the forestock, and want to make as original as possible.

Grooved handguards were used by all of the manufacturers, as were non-grooved handguards.

Having said that I don't believe that they would be correct on a post war No4Mk2, but it would depend what came out of the parts bin.

On a war dated rifle it is dealers choice. As LE stated, it was whatever came out of the parts bin.
