Norinco M305 Stock swap Vs SKS Swap?

Hey guys, I am considering buying either a m305 or an sks and swapping the stocks to a more tactical sorta deal.


Leaning more towards turning ThiS

Not too sure what to go with yet, was hoping to get your opinions on what would be a better all around gun the m305 or sks and if you had any tips for me on doing one of these mods...Also by doing these mods would they become restricted rifles? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You, Joey
 
m305 will cost more for ammunition, but will be good for hunting big game. The M305 accessories generally cost more than the sks, but you can scope the m305 in a better manner. The mods will not make either restricted. It would help if you gave us a better idea of what you want to do with the gun.
 
thanx for the tips, this rifle will be used for big game mostly, also a bit of a toy for at the range..And also just in case shtf haha.
I have also been considering something like one of these in a 223 but not sure which model is similar, in that case it would mostly just be used for the range and general plinking etc...
 
Get the m14 the ammo is more available and suited for hunting ... I have a sks that was given to me it's a norinco some ammo is fairly accurate pie plate at 100 yards ! but some surplus stuff I have is so bad I have missed the pizza box at 25 from a bench trying to zero it , you can pimp it out for dirt cheap and make it tactical cool but I wouldn't hunt with it can't trust it

If you are looking to have a more quality fun gun a vz 858 or a norinco m14 have more quality aftermarket upgrades avalible
 
The m14 you wanna build is right up my alley man- very slick! SKS is a cool gun but not something Id spend time/money on modding and improving. I like 'em stock and it "dont seem right" to dress up a rifle that wasnt meant for anything fancy in the
first place. (one dorks opinion)


Whereas....you have the M21, DMR, socom16, some really fine representations (of the m14)to look at/aspire to + decent amount of support and (specifically canadian)information on modding your chinese bargain rifle into a beast as time and $$ allows. Im finding it pretty rewarding myself.




Another option based on what you seem to be into is pimping a VZ- 858 spetznaz wannabe style(also 7.62x39). Something Ill definitely turn to when my shivering Visa card recovers from my m14 habit. The cost of setting this rifle up is likely gonna run more than the m14 but be aware of the ability of a semi-auto 308 gun to put considerable dents in your bank account. 7.62x39 is just a pleasure to shoot but you have 2 very different calibres listed there man it really depends on what youre gonna be doing.

While I really like SKSs and believe they have a role and place in most gun collections, I'm pretty skeptical of value of accessorizing them. And if you do, there's limited scoping options that work well, that will still probably make it just a 2-3 MOA at best. Though it's killed bigger game, I wouldn't purposefully use it for anything bigger than deer.

The M305 is a better all round big game rifle and will allow you to shoot targets and game at far greater distances. Not as cheap to shoot, but it would be worth reloading for.
 

I regularly take both the SKS and the 305 to the range.
The SKS is a bit like popping bubble wrap, very pleasing and theraputic, but somewhat frustrating.
The 305 is just a wholee bunch of fun and way more satisfying especially when your shrinking your groups with handloads. ( shrinking groups is not something I have experienced with the SKS, occassional "missing groups" definitely ) LOL

Love me SKS but its a zombie tapper at best and no amount of money will ever change that.
And have you ever thought about a Crapco 305...........it works and is about 1/10th of the price of a fancy arsed stock. see the Tapco M305 on this site.
Keep it cheap .........its way more fun :)

Having spent money tarting up an SKS - Choate stock, scout rail, good red dot - the return on investment just wasn't there.
Initially the SKS got me shooting cheaply and quickly, but the platform doesn't reward 'upgrades' in the same way that an M14 can.
And that's because at $200 the SKS is fair value, but at $400 the M305/M14 is underpriced for what it can become.

Buy and SKS and a crate of ammo. Shoot the **** out of stuff at the range. At the same time, buy an M14 and work to get it - and you - shooting the best it can with careful upgrades and time spent on it.

I did up my SKS with the tapco stock and the receiver cover weaver rail for scope and love to shoot it.As for my M305 I decided I didnt want to scope it out as I like the iron sights.All I have done to it was put a Bipod on it and change out the spring guide to a M14 Medic fluted one. Shoots fantastic.
 
Im with most everyone else. Not that im a good shot at all, but i can hit a 12'' piece of steel at 200 yards quite easily with my m305, with an sks i can't hit a damn thing even at 100 yards. IMO an sks is an excellent starting rifle for anyone wanting something cheap in semi-auto, that they can learn the basics with, espeically tearing down and cleaning. M305 all the way though otherwise, much better value for what your getting.
