Back in April, I purchased a Norinco HP9 12ga with 14" Barrel. I finally took it out to the range the past weekend but found I was not able to load any 12ga shells into the magazine tube . It looks to me the retainer that keeps shells inside the tube from dropping out is causing the ammo not to beyond the plastic body of the shell. When I extracted the ammo, I noticed a scratch that runs along the side of the shell.

Has anyone experienced this? Thank you for your assistance.

Do you mean the shell stops (little fingers that hold rounds in the mag tube) wont allow shells into the mag tube, or dont let them feed out of the tube when you rack the action?

I can't load the shells into the tube at all. It stops just before the brass and there are scrape marks down the side of the shell when I pull it out.

No I didn't. I did push my finger in the follower and it looks to be ok, no obstructions. I will take photos and post them when I get home tonight.

Ok. Here are the pictures I've taken:

This is how far the shell will go. I could go further but I didn't want to risk having it jammed:

Here's a look at the shell after I took it out. Notice the scratch marks running from the plastic shell down to the brass. They are on both sides of the shell.

hmm.

can you feel any rough edges if you put your finger in the tube?

Is the gun brand new or did you buy it used??

Is the forend forward all the way or locked in that position? Sometimes having the forend seemingly forward, but not quite will make it impossible to load shells in the tube like on the second picture you posted.

It's brand new from SFRC. The tube feels smooth and yes the forend is fully engaged forward. It's been in the safe since I bought it and always inserted a snap cap into the chamber. I only noticed the blockage as I prepared to load the mag prior to firing it the first time.

take the barrel off. take the spring out of the mag, and push the follower out .you will be able to tell if there is junk in the mag tube as it is a possibility .

Well the follower is crap, I'm not saying that just because my company makes the best aftermarket followers :)
But they are really bad and also. Will Not hold up to solvent. Cleaners.
If u don't want to pay for one of our followers then I'm sure someone will give you one of the remington ones.
They are still crap but they will work most of the time

That just didn't look right to me, but I looked at mine and it looks very similar.

Try to depress that left side, (from shooters view), shell latch. It might be not able to spring inward to allow loading. That's my guess from where the scratch ends on your shell compared to the picture you posted. If they depress with a light push, then do as someone mentioned and take apart your mag tube and figure out what the hell is going on. BBB is right, the follower is crud, if you change one thing on that shotty, do the follower. Yes, I'm aware that I haven't yet, but I am aware of how crappy mine is every time I take mine apart.

Here is my favourite 870 takedown video.

Thanks everyone. I'll watch the video and see if I can take it apart to see what's happening. Hmmm so the follower is questionable. I'll keep that in mind once I get this sorted out. The store has asked me to return it and they will replace it so I'm taking their offer it if I can't solve this issue. I just hope he'll pay the shipping charges.

You don't even need to take your pump off and your bolt out so don't worry.

On the video, see what he does @ 1:03, that's flexing the shell stop. If you're new to the 870 disassembly, you can skip from 0:50 to 1:29, then go from 1:29 to about 1:57. Then you haven't removed your bolt, shell stops or trigger assembly. You only need to get the barrel off and empty out that mag tube to take a look.

Sorry if this is obvious but when removing the spring and follower, that spring retention cap is loaded with spring pressure so watch your eye (keep a hold of it when prying it out of the mag tube)

Had the exact same thing! Mine actually had a plastic blocker inside the tube that prevented the loading of a full shell. Looks like the blocker was designed to make a higher capacity tube hunting safe, but in the HP9 it meant I couldn't get a shell in.

I just assumed it was the guys at the shop f'n with me. :)

Simple fix - take the plastic blocker thingy out.

You have many listed on your web page which one is the best for the HP-9, do I need a new spring too?

The factory spring will work fine when everything else does, but you can always buy a heavier one to make yourself feel better. With one of BBBs followers it wont be necessary at all.

I seen that on my 780. The things that hold the shell in the mag tube where too tight. You could just barely get them in and you would have to press the two levers apart to get the shells out of the mag. I just sold it and bought an hp9 which I've put 300 shells through without and issue.
