I am new to the sport of shooting, i have a S&W M&P9 and i love it, but its too big for my girlfriends hand and there is too much recoil for her.

I just picked up a Browning 1911-22cal, it is 80% the size of a full 1911. Its pretty small.

Anyways, it fits her hand like a glove, i took her out this wknd for her first time shooting anything and she really loved it. She did not at all like the 9mm, she shot one mag and said "Im done with that one".

She got firing the 1911-22 and had a blast, she shot 180 rounds and wants to go back.

Thought id share.

If you want anyone new to enjoy shooting, it has to be with a gun that fits them and they like. Otherwise it will likely be a negative experience. Good job!

Sounds like my wife, she doesnt care for the 9mm and hates the 45 but she has no problem dumping 2 or 3 hundred .22's down range. She just started shooting a few months ago and now has 2 of her own .22's, a pistol I hope to pick up this week and a rifle.

Bought this for the wife on her last birthday, it gets her out to the range

my wife really liked the feel of the 1911 in our RPAL class so I went and bought a full size 1911-22 and took her out, she shot 2 mags with it and handed it back to me then confinscated my SR9 for the rest of the day and preferred the 9mm over .22. She hasn't been out since I picked up an actual 1911 in .45 so we'll see how that goes over next time she comes out.

Mine prefers my BlackHawk 357. She tried the 41 mag and a 9mm but only wants to shoot the BH. Just got a Vaquero so that may change

Different women definitely have different interests and preferences...and like anybody else the preferences change over time.

My wife initially only liked magnum revolvers. Then it was the 226. Now she is drifting more towards Glocks, although she still likes her 226.

She is basically uninterested in .22s. But who knows? Maybe in the future.

I am trying to figure out some ways to get my baby girl shooting in the next 18 years. She is 5 months now.

I took my wife to the range a couple of weeks ago to test out her new Glock 22 Gen 4. She liked it plenty but I think either a .22 or conversion are in order. Fodder for the Glock ain't cheep. A couple of very nice fellows were there and after chatting for a bit offered for her to shoot an AR-15. Having very friendly locals sure goes a long way too when it comes to getting her more interested!!

Now as soon as I can talk her into letting me take my 3 year old daughter to the range I'll be set!! Already eying up a couple of old Cooey's for the 3 year old and 2 month old for when they both get a little older.;)

My gf just finished her PAL/RPAL. She's shot my m&p40 and kimber so at first she wanted a m&p in .22 Then she flip flopped and said .22s suck lol. So now she wants the SAM commander 9mm in stainless for Christmas. She's not a big fan of pink guns so thankfully ill never have to buy her a pink gun. Great way to spend time together though.

Mine loves .22 rifles and pistols. She's getting damn good too, and I figure she'll be confident with 9mm soon.

She doesn't even have her pal yet, but I think her instructor/examiner will be wondering how the hell she learned to run a pistol like a boss, with no licence... hahaha

i've brought several ladies out shooting mostly my buddys GF trying to convince them that guns are not bad and out of everything they like the 1911 singke stacks and ar15's the most
i guess its tru girls do have good taste

My gf prefers the feel of my Beretta 92fs in 9mm over my Colt 1911 in .22lr.
She's pretty good with them both, considering she's only been to the range about 5 times...
