Cheap AR?

Yea, I priced an ELcan, they're only like $80! I was planning on throwing one on there. This while thing started out with me hating the round and the weapon, just wanting a similar rifle to help me work on the service rifle shooting, but now I'm kind of in love with the Colt. Irunguns, how ever, seems to be out of stock and I hear they most likely will be for a while.

Please, contact me and let me know where you're paying $80 for a servicable Elcan? I'll buy all they have and give you a finder's fee for your troubles.

That would be a fake elcan for $80!!
Just a thought, if you want to improve your shooting, how bout doing it in your own back yard? I just bought a Crosman M4-177 pellet gun so when I get home from Africa, I can shoot in my basement and stay warm so I can adjust going from +39C to -18c in Edmonton today.
These have the right feel, will shoot very accurately and give you a chance to actually improve your shooting.
I think way to many people think improving their shooting means "Playing Tactical" when in reality a good accurate pellet gun will help a whole lot. And by the way, I own about 10 or so AR's of various types and builds that I have done but I think this little pellet rifle is the cats ass for the price of under $ 100.00 bucks and no licence required.

Like I said, just a thought!

Unless you're planning on just hanging this thing on the wall and looking at it, that $80 fake Elcan is not going to do the job for you methinks. Don't waste your time. There is no sense putting some Chinese piece of crap fake sight probably meant for airsoft on a real rifle. It probably won't handle the recoil.

I'm with Doubletap78 & Tiriaq.
Sure is OK to window shop now but you must get your PAL/RPAL first.
You can't legally own a restricted rifle or enjoy trigger time with it until you got the paperwork sorted out.
Good suggestions made earlier. Spec out your needs and do it. Most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Absolutely, I don't expect to get this kind of rifle with out a valid RPAL. But does any one know if I could be able to skip the step of joining a shooting club since I'm in the CF? I know you guys aren't the people who make these decisions, I'm just looking for a general opinion.

I figure it should be ok. They want all "target shooters" to prove they are actually target shooting (don't think about this too hard) and therefore you can't target shoot without being a member of a CFO approved shooting range. I'd say the CF would have an approved shooting range so your "membership" in the CF should be good enough?

...maybe?...

Good luck!

I left HFX many moons ago and I am no longer familiar with NS regulations so I will leave that to others.
Pretty well across Canuckistan, you will not be granted an ATT unless you demonstrate shooting club membership. That will be discussed on your RPAL course.
BTW, your base most certainly have a shooting club, most do. Check it out. PERI staff should know or at least point you in the right direction.
Good luck.

I would simply join the base shooting club except the closest base to me is over an hour and a half away. I'm not a regular force soldier and simply work out of an armory right now. When we do range days we all have to get on a bus and drive 2 hours away

Once you take your Rpal, things will be a little clearer wrt storing, transporting, and shooting your AR. Once you have an Rpal, you can buy an AR but you cannot take it anywhere without an ATT and you cannot get an ATT without belonging to a range/club. You cannot shoot an AR or any other restricted firearm anywhere except an approved range. AFAIK these are the rules for all of us in Canada and they cannot be circumvented.
Step 1: get Rpal
Step 2: join range
Step 3: buy AR
Step 4: for the love of God, don't put an $80 knockoff Elcan on a Colt! I'm deadly serious, your #### will fall off (or at least it should)
Step 5: enjoy your shooting as often as you can

Also, I was NOT looking to circumnavigate any rules. I just wasn't fully clear on the procedure. I know I can't shoot an AR-15 where ever I damn well please, I just don't want to join any of the ranges around here as they all suck for the amount of membership fees you pay.

Alright, I get it, no Chinese Elcan. It was just the first Elcan I saw, so I didn't know how much they actually were. Any ideas on a similar sight that won't bust my wallet?
I bought the Hi-Lux CMR from Wolverine for my Stag. 1-4x and I really like the reticle. Your choice of red or green illuminated arc and dot. It's $399 and a great value.

Here in BC, we can use slivercore as a gun club membership requirement to get LTATT...dunno about your province tho.

You can find real Elcan C79's here on the EE. Usually for about 400-500 bucks on average. Tritium is typically gone or severely decayed in those ones (not like it matters tho). I used to have one with a gen 4 mount.
