Man does Westrifle ever have some nice looking SKSs on their site.

Supposed to be more locally soon - I'd rather dig through a crate and hand pick one if possible. Plus, I have to do some complex geometry to figure out how to cram another rifle into the safe. Anybody got a supercomputer idling?

That being said, I won't hesitiate to buy from westrifle again. Great dealer.

do you have to clean out all the cosmiline befor shooting?
Yes, you need to clean it first, but there wasn't much cosmoline on mine (esp compared to the cosmoline filled Chinese SKS I bought a while back). Look again at the picture of parts in the metal tray filled with solvent. Those parts are "as-is" before taking a toothbrush to them but after wiping off the excess cosmoline with a paper towel. The most cosmoline was in the bottom of the magazine.

I'll be sweating the cosmoline out of the wood stock today and then putting it back together.

Thank you for posting this. I have been asked two years ago to change those frankpinned to something that is more acceptable. Well WESTRIFLE.COM did it for you. If anyone out there says that they did I can show multiple emails and requests showing that we were the one ( many of those letters in Russian)

Anyway how do people feel about this pinning?

I forgot to take a pic of the magazine to show how it complies with our stupid laws. The original stamped serial number on the bottom is intact, which is what many of us want. No Frankenpin! Yay! ;)

Just cut a hole in the wall behind the safe drill 2 holes in the 2x6 run a cable through your guns to lock them to the studs. Pull safe in front of wall and done. If you want to buy more guns cut a bigger hole. You could run tongue and groove have way up the wall in the room and have the lower half of the wall hinge out and you could store a ton of rifles in there.

Just a helpful safe hidden storage tip.

Where's the pics of the other rifles? Some of us are waiting. :)

Got sidetracked the other day and just started sweating out the cosmoline now, since the wife is away for several hours. :) I'm doing my usual method of placing it in front of the hot air coming from the fireplace heater fan. Slow roast, wipe until no more sweat and then change sides. Then air out the room before my wife gets home. :)

Been married over 20 years now. Way too expensive to change at this point in time. ;) To be fair, she's extremely patient with my hobbies so I've done the best I can with "Yes dear". lol!

Re: fireplace, just watch the heat. If it's too hot for too long then you may blister the shellac. Found out about that the hard way.

Thanks. Yes, I got a sling, cleaning kit and a few pouches with it. I saw your post when you ordered the 1949. It'll be a nice one to add to your collection. Enjoy!
