Sage EBR Chassis installation

I've run into a problem trying to instal my Norc M14 into a Sage chassis.

I've gotten the op rod guide block on without a problem, red mark facing towards the muzzle - which I've read is a common mistake people make - however, no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the trigger group to catch onto the receiver. In the installation instructions it says that there should be a slight resistance. What I am encountering is more than just 'slight'

I've had a look and can't see any obvious obstructions. There is an ever so slight gap between the heel of the receiver and the stock (about 1mm) and I can't get that to close. I've read that the tolerance for the fit between the trigger mechanism and the receiver is very small, so I'm guessing that's what's causing it not to clamp.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've gone at her with a rubber mallet, but no dice....

I certainly didn't expect this much trouble with the installation considering it's seen as a 'drop in' chassis. Ha!

I have a SAGE also. It can be a b!tch to get it all together if you haven't done it before. I ended up taking it to Gord at Milarm and got it back the next day. Don't get frustrated and start banging away at it. If you have to, take it into the local gun shop. I love mine and so will you. Glad you got it!

Just put my M1A into a sage last night . Is the op rod block square to the receiver ? if is is not it could cause the receiver fit correctly into the chassis. mine went together quite nicely

Have a look at the back of the two "tangs" that stick out from your receiver where the trigger group installs. Is it square or is it rounded?

Now have a look at stock where those two tangs fit in. Notice any damage to the finish on the back corners?

While doing the test installs for the stocks I make I came across one Norinco that was not finished square and the result sounds very much like what you're describing. I rounded the applicable corners (on my stock, not the rifle) and it fit. I do this on all my stocks now just to be sure.

I'm curious to know, from where did you purchase your rifle and how wide is your receiver?

Is it a factory made shorty by any chance ?....I found that the 2 shortys I own have the cutouts in the stock made deeper for the trigger group than my full length one. I looked at about 6 other shortys and they looked the same . I had to remove quite a bit of material on my USGI stock under the trigger pads and trigger guard to get the trigger group closed when I mounted one of my shortys in it and it was used for my full length version before that.

I believe the receivers on some of the shortys have different dimensions than the full length version.

Maybe this process will help you trouble shoot the problem.
Remove all three screws from the op rod guide and test fit the receiver then see if the trigger group will lock up.

I have tried it numerous times with the three screws out as well as screwed into the op rod guide. I think it's something else.

Yes, it's a factory made shorty. Here's to hoping this isn't the case as I'd hate to remove any material off the stock, but I'll definitely look into this.

I got this rifle from CanadaAmmo, purchased it at the beginning of this year. I'll have a look at what you mentioned and report back, maybe with some pics. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Nope there has been a few recievers from a certain company that recently imported in country have a in-proper reciever flats. Although with the black plastic stock it is not that noticable but when placed on high end rigs like JAE or Sage it is quite evedent and besides having a machinist handy you can not correct it.
Sorry but this is all from first hand knowledge.
