Just wondering what those of you who are using 28 gauge shotguns are using in the uplands this season?

I have been using a 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37.

A baikal IZH-43 sxs.....I had the grotesque forend refashioned into a splinter. The shotgun weighs close to 7lbs but fortunately has a great balance and very well regulated bbls.

That is interesting Ahsan. I picked up a used one mint here from a member a few months ago and have been quite suprised by how well it works. I don't like the forearm either so may do the same now after reading this. My only complaint would be the fact it is fixed chokes. Not a great pic but here is mine.
Wish browning would do a BPS upland english stock ,short barrel like my 16ga in 28. Man would that be sweet. take care

Is that the nova scotia gun?? If so I had that in my hands before it listed and thought it had real early damacus barrels so did not buy thinking I could not use modern ammo. Boy was I stupid if it was??

No. I've had this gun for awhile and it is not damascus barrels. Would loved to have seen the one you are referring to though.

Now that I think about it, it may be the gun you are referring to. It came from nova Scotia. But it has 2 3/4" chambers and the barrels are not damascus. Going by the proof marks and inspectors initials, I believe a couple of fellows narrowed it to around 1952 production.
I bought another Belgian 28 gauge hammer gun a few months ago. It also does not have damascus barrels but it has 2 1/2" chambers. It came from Ontario.

It sold here I am going to say maybe july or august. I thought you nailed it since it went out west he offered it to me 1st prior to listing it and like an idiot not knowing anything about old SXS let it pass.
I will have to ask him next time I see him
take care

Yes, it is the gun as I remember you sent me a pm about it. But that was a year ago this past August. I used the gun last year for upland. It's a very nice, light gun to carry and points great. "Ya shoulda grabbed it" lol!! I just haven't used my latest hammer gun this year as I don't have any 2 1/2" shells yet.

Man the time flys once you get over 50 LOL
I knew the minute he left my yard with it I made a mistake. It was 100 feet from the safe and mine .
Oh well glad it went to a new home that loves the old 28ga as much as I do. take care
I will have a good cry now LOL

I have the same Baikal....will post an image of the fore end when I have the opportunity. Personally, I don't mind fixed chokes (appropriate ones though) in a bird gun.

My go to Gun for Birds now is my Winchester 101, choked Skeet/Skeet...#9 loads and its a deadly combo for Woodcock and Grouse, its the one on the left....got it from a CGN member here 2 years ago, a collector...the gun was still covered in Museum wax....a beautiful piece, it took a while to get used to the fact that I would ding her up a bit but when I took it out for the first time and my Pointer locked on a bird, I flushed the WC and folded the bird effortlessly....we have been best friends ever since!!

Not sure what I like more the 101 or your dogs both are SWEET.

Side note did it start raining old COOEYS or what. You might see one 28ga model 84 in the EE a year and in the last 24 hours there has been three, last two went in the 1st few hours or so from being listed and I would say this one will move fast also.
I am mentioning it here since I know a few 28ga gunnutz members are looking for one and they are tough to find . Best move quick. Good luck.

Very nice, Thanks for sharing. I have two french Britts one three and sadly my baby and unreal hunter is 11 1/2.
Tore her muscle 3 weeks ago in her back leg and the vet says that is the end of her hunting days.
My heart is broke but the good news he says she is not in any pain with the strap on. I bought a gun yesterday locally and once I put them in the truck and she seen the gun case she looked at me like HEY dude don't forget our orange collars and bells.Hey stop we want to go hunting
