People have been telling me to do this for what, six months now? Okay maybe not that long, but I figure when its cold outside is a good time to take the rifle apart and tinker.

Let me know if there's anything I missed or didn't explain properly?

Cool people watch stuff in HD

I've got two more. One of little stuff like taking apart the bolt release and the safety, and one looking at the bolt, piston, etc. The American's have been asking specifically about that one. They seem very confused by the firing pin for some reason.

TV that is a great video.
I have an older model with a Mepro and have been trying to figure out how to get the barrel off to mount a Dlask rail.
I have been reading the manual about taking the barrel off and it just didn't make any sense to me.
This has helped quite a bit. Thank you.

Highland Fusilier: you won't be dissapointed. They're a ton of fun.

Lawn Gnome: I'm still tempted to switch mine back to the Dlask rail. Its definitely lighter than the Canada Ammo full length I have now, but I'd probably need a 3" offset for that Razor scope.

Can anyone with a factory flattop confirm that this process is largely the same?

"There should be a pin here, but I lost mine..."

lol. Too bad you didn't have a barrel wrench for the video. Don't forget the latch that you need to depress on the opposite side to unlock the barrel when turning the release. The only other thing I'd add (maybe a pop-up bold, cautionary text) is that before unlocking the barrel, make sure the charging handle rod is removed. North Sylva doesn't have any more in-stock (I snagged the last one). ;)

Otherwise, great disassembly video! Can't wait to see the others... Let me know when you do the BCG, because I should permanently bookmark this (I must be too used to AR15, as I always manage to struggle with re-inserting the firing pin). ;)

Ah damn I knew I forgot something. I took the parts out to my father's shop the night before to use the grinder, then filmed the rest of it the next day. I'll add it as an annotation.

No worries at all. I added one other disclaimer above with respect to the charging handle rod, just because it's kind of an unobtanium part at the moment...

My new Tavor has the first-gen factory flat top (the shorter one), and I find this is a great setup for optics (it's amazing what not having that fixed rear BUIS opens up for options). My understanding from mrsmitty is that the process for the factory flattop is largely the same, although apparently Ian @ Herron had a heck of a time removing it due to the amount of loctite.

Blaxsun, how he did it in the video, removed the charging handle and the rod along with the upper hand guard.
Is that ok to do?

Yes, absolutely. The important thing is that you need to remove the rod completely prior to turning the barrel release/latch pin - otherwise the barrel locking mechanism will damage or break the rod.

Once you have everything removed, just shine a light in there and rotate the mechanism and you'll see why (when you unlock it it rotates into the space previously occupied by the rod).

You can also remove one pin from the charging handle with a small punch to remove the rod (some find this easier, and this method is required for installing the shorter CTAR barrel; don't ask me for a video, that's an hour or so of my life that I'm not getting back... ;) )

Lol, yes thats the natural way for it. Its a pain in the ass to get the charging handle out without removing the upper handguard.

The key thing is not to get over-excited and try to flip the barrel lock while everything is still together. I seem to recall a certain someone bending their charging handle by doing that! ;)

You sure you still want to a CTAR barrel? Because trying to get the charging rod out without removing the upper handguard is only half the battle for the shorter barrel, lol... ;) Bending the charging handle or 'dimpling' the charging handle rod? ;)

Well right now I kinda want to buy a Flattop TAR-21 . . . and an X95 . . . and a CTAR barrel still . . . and track down a 9mm conversion kit!

2013: The year I become broke-ass but well armed.

Don't you have a flattop TAR-21? ;) I think I'd be content with an X95 (restricted or non-restricted) in 9mm. Is North Sylva planning to bring in any of the CTAR barrels?

Breakdown of the Bolt Carrier Group is done!

Blaxsun, I "made" my Flattop TAR-21. Its good, but no integral BUIS for me, and its at least a 1/2" higher. I'd like end up with a pair similar to your own. One using the Dlask rail and classic handguard, one flattop with a CTAR barrel.

I should really start calling North Sylva and making noise about those.

Did you see the American listing for their 6 different Tavor models?

Great video! I like how you reassemble the buffer spring; I think I choose the hardest way to do it, and your method looks a heck of a lot easier! ;)

I'd love to see some pictures of your modified flattop Tavor! The integral BUIS are kind of overrated, anyway. At least on the flattop (my Elcan Spectre covers the rear flip-up BUIS anyway). With the fixed rear BUIS of the original factory model, the front flip-up is actually pretty decent (especially a Tritium upgrade).

You should definitely pester North Sylva a bit for the CTAR barrels. I did see the chatter on M4Carbine, yes. Looks like 16.5" and 18" barrels for them. I think I saw a 300BLK and several conversion kits in the mix as well. I wonder if any of these will be compatible with the Canadian version? I'd love to see a Geissele trigger pack! :D

I lost the missing cotter pin too. However, I bought several replacment (box of 100). They are zinc plated so you just have to paint it black. I did not bother to paint it.
I think I bought mine through McMaster. Anyhow, here is the info:
Spaenaur from Kitchener, ON (1-800-265-8772)
Hitch Pin Clip
3/64" (0.047") wire x 19/32" O/A length
Spring Steel Zinc Plated
1 pk / 100 ea
I think the catalogue number is 090-106

Great tutorial videos TV! You are our official CGN Tavor ambassador!

One question is are there any alternative compatible ready-made wrench tool available that can be purchased for barrel removal? I just don't have any serious machining tools to custom build a steel tool for it.

All you need is a large allen key and a bench grinder
