thureon defense vs JR carbine

I think I'm going to take the plunge soon here on one a (TD that is) Doing the whole 9mm vs .45 thing now... oh boy....
I see reliable and Epps have em, as well as arms east... anyone else carry them?

It would be interesting to know if a magpul MOE illum kit will fit those rails... I don't really wan to drop $90 on a set from TD.

After doing some research between the JR 9mm and TD 9mm, the TD seemed to be the clear winner. It got the best reviews, pretty much all good reviews. I couldn't find any negatives but the Jr had a variety of good and bad. In the beginning the gun seemed to have some teething issues, so to speak. Especially in the 45acp. So today I went to Ellwood Epps to buy a TD. Got a new one out of the box, looked at it for a while, found it kinda ugly, didn't like the bolt catch, the magazine release was a little awkward to use and the top rail seemed a little high. So I asked to see a JR just for fun, had them both side by side, picked one up, then the other, took a few minutes then decided on the JR. I took a risk by spending $900 on a rifle with mixed reviews. But I just liked the way it looked and felt, I liked the bolt catch how it locks downwards, and can be switched to the other side. You can also have the ejection port switched over to whichever side you prefer. It has a quad rail, the top rail is lower on the gun. I think this rifle was designed to use 9mm rounds and if I don't mess with it(internally) it should work flawlessly for a long time. That's my gut feeling anyway. Just don't buy the 45acp, even Ellwood Epps told me not to buy one in that caliber.

rivetc78,

Merry Christmas. Just having a read through this, as I am sure you expect, a couple of things.

-We did not get 'the boot', sorry. We continue to import and distribute TD. Ellwood Epps also sells TD.

-After trying a number of configurations, including the base config, which we also sold for high $8XX (don't recall as I type), we settled on the full rail package with monolithic top rail as our standard configuration. Partly because it was our #####ing that led to the top rail's design, and then because I believe, at about $180 more, the 4 piece rail package (including top rail) and octagonal multimount freefloat fore-end represent the best value and best performance. It allows for long radius, freefloated sights, rather than the barrel mount sight of the base configuration. I have a bit of a thing for FF, long radius sights on rifles. Love it.

So there was the thinking behind it.

-We service what we sell.

Otherwise to all, on TD, our latest shipment is in Canada, but not yet with us. I do intend to see them shortly. Shipment consists of all GA 19" Carbines. All with full free-float multi-mount rail package. Sliding M4 stock. Cals 45ACP, 9mm, 10mm. The 10mm were a handful, and I believe all spoken for (we keep contact lists for everything, so do inquire). Price, pre-order anyway, is unchanged at $1079.

As noted above, Prices from TD did go up substantially. If that price increase leads to TD being able to ship firearms on a more consistent basis, then I support them. (Our backorder at TD has not cleared in a number of years.) In an attempt to keep CDN pricing constant, we ourselves attempted a plan to lower ancillary logistics costs. The bills from that attempt are, as they say, still coming in. There may be a necessary adjustment, but if so, we hope to delay it as long as possible. I hate raising prices on anything.

So, full railed TD GA9 and GA45, very soon. Call to book one. ;)

Happy New Year

Just got off the phone with Gary @ Wanstalls and ordered myself JR Carbine in 9mm. Today is the last day for free shipping so I took advantage of it. Great guy to deal with and was pleasant to talk to. Frankly, that means something to me as it shows he respects his customers and appreciates my business. Sometimes, small gestures go a long way.

I'll do business with them again in the future.

So, is anyone shooting cast bullets in their reloads with the JR? Any issues?

What generation of Glock mags seem to give the most reliable performance? Anyone using .40 S&W mags in their 9mm JR? Issues at all?

rivetc78,

(Yes , with Arms East)

Which one did you get? .45ACP or 9mm?

If I end up getting a .45ACP at some point it may be a TD. I could do it now no problem but I want to have some idea of what I'm going to sell to make way for it. I've also got my eye on a Ruger 77/.357 that I've wanted for some time now. Problem is they're scarce.

.45 ACP of Course :)

I reload .45. Bullseye with 230 gr Hornady XTPs or CAMPRO 200gr Truncated Bullets.

I have 8 G21 mags (and hopefully my KRISS mag extension coming soon)

I have read and seen these run like a top on .45ACP, unlike the JR version. My goal was to purchase a KRISS Vector....but with the 6 1/2 year breaking the Plasma 3 weeks ago,the wife's Honda getting a love tap by a Pick-up truck (screwing up the steering) and my panic AR Magazine buying..... I ran out of cash.
Well, I did buy a New Shotty...and 200 rounds of 12GA Winchester PDX Segmenting Slugs....then theres the 10/22 G36 Clone I bought....
Wow...I spent too much money this month LOL

Friend has a rather new JR in 45 and it is going back for repairs, TD would be my choice based on that and I would want a 10mm which JR is not capable of
