Does someone knows where I can buy some reloadable 7.62X39 brass? (used or new)

For now, I have to buy some Prvi Partizan brand new ammo to shoot it and keep the brass... ;-) A bit expensive!

Does someone already reloaded this caliber? Mostly for plinking or Varmint hunting, I'm searching a place to buy some bullets... .311" are'nt so popular, so any advice is welcome!

reloading'ly yours,

I picked up most of my brass from buying new PVRI rounds. You can buy the brass separately but you don't save that much. PRVI uses good brass. I'm not sure where you get the idea that .311 bullets are hard to find? I never have a hard time finding them. For what its worth as far as reloading this caliber, the PRVI soft points shoot 5 shots through a dime at 100 yards with my CZ bolt action. I doubt my reloading will improve much on this, and why bother? These are great loads.

.311 bullets aren't as common as .308 but they are still really easy to find as .303 brit shoots .311 bullets. My brass I bought loaded as prvi ammunition.

I thought Trade Ex sold brass. I have found with factory stuff, if it is steel casings it all seems to be berdan primed. Has everyone one else found this out too?

Ya the steel case stuff is cheaper but it's berdan primed. Also steel is not reloadable as it's too hard to be sized properly and lacquer coated which both comes off and gums the hell out of dies(shell casings will stick).

I bought dies a while ago but just havent been interested enough to load 7.62x39. You could cast for it to save and have a variety of bullets. Hornady makes a few .310"-312" bullets you could use including a FMJ 123gr. Also saw bulk bags of 123gr .311" at Williams Arms.

I would buy and shoot PRVI or S&B for brass.

How much are you looking for?
I'd have to check my stash.
Mine is all PMC once fired with the crimp removed and wet tumbled but i'm not sure that I have enough to spare.

Is it economically efficient to reload 7.62x39. When it is 250$ for a crate of 1200-1440 rounds ?
Considering that your time worth something too.
Considering that you need equipment that worth many hundreds.

From what i've seen its not really. no ?

Hello Rick,

I take your point about the reasonable cost of steel-cased mil-surp ammunition. I do not like that it is corrosive, however, as I prefer to spend more time shooting rather than cleaning. I have had luck with steel cased MFS ammunition, though: it runs about $180 per box of 500, and is non-corrosive.

Personally, I reload 7.62x39 because I shoot it out of a CZ 527 Carbine, and that beautiful little bolt gun is capable of holding about an inch at 100 with my hand loads. I also look forward to using the rifle as a short range (within 100 yards) whitetail rifle, and I have far more confidence that my hand-loads would do the job than any of the commercial stuff that I am aware of in the caliber.

Best regards,
Ryan

For this round,, probably cost more to reload then to buy surplus, but I also reload 7.62 x 54R and .45 so equipment cost is spread out.
Time - not really a consideration, what else you going to do all winter,, knit?

You can buy boxes of 500 of the Hornady Z-MAX 123gr projectiles all over the place. They are just the V-MAX with different tips so are great for varmints.

S&B also makes reloadable 7.62x39 brass cases that seem to be good. Only place I've seen it on a shelf in person is the Shooters Den in Sudbury. I've been considering picking some up since the CZ 527 in 7.62x39 is on my list of desired firearms :3

Please forgive the aside:

My CZ 527 in 7.62x39 is the rifle that I shoot most, and the rifle I'd sell last. It's light, handy, pretty accurate, has great open sights, and the stock trigger is decent unset and excellent when set. I would choose a lighter scope if I was doing it all again, though. I have a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x (30mm) mounted in Warne QR rings, and it's really too heavy for the rifle. I imagine that a Leopold Ultralight 2-7x28mm would be about perfect.

Best regards,
Ryan
