I was wondering if anyone has loaded 30-06, 55.5gr of IMR4350 and using 180gr Barnes Tipped TSX. I have been through many reload books and no problem with 55.5gr for a 180gr bullet. It list 55.0gr as max in the Barnes book. I am curious if there is any concern with using 55.5gr with the Barnes. I am trying to see groups patterns with several different 180gr bullets with the 55.5gr of IMR4350. Is there reason to be concerned? Has anyone used a lod like this?

Well, it depends. If you use say Win brass, normal primer, bullet has let's say 1/32" run to rifling and that reload is used in the cold hunting months then go ahead and enjoy. On the other hand, use that charge in military brass with magnum primer, jam that bulet against rifling, fire it during hot spell in the summer and more likely than not you will be in trouble....

The question proves you already have a "concern" with the load. If you want to have a long and happy reloading life, whenever your gut feels a "concern", back off and work up. Isn't that what everyone will tell you? You know that, but you asked a question hoping someone will give you permission to adopt an unsafe approach so you can avoid the work. Don't. Do it right, and then you will know it's safe and reliable in YOUR rifle.

Actually I have spent many hours working this load of 55.5gr of IMR4350 powder with my 180gr Nosler Part. Prot. Pt. What I wanted to do was to see if I can see some sort of patern from the different bullets. I have some Nosler 180gr part speer pt, 180gr sabretips, 180gr boattails. I have analized the BC, and wanted to see impact groups with respect to bullet. That was why I had wondered if anyone has loaded this load before. All other manuals that I look into 55.5gr is below max load, but Barnes lists 55.0grs as their max load. Was not looking for someone to give me permission. Just sending out the question of why each has a different max load. That is all, but thanks for you imput.
