Trying to train my dog to hunt rabbit. Any help?

I tell ya, if I was hunting other dogs pee my dog would be a champ.

However that's not so tasty...

Rabbit tho.... mmmm

My dogs a beagle boxer mix. Pretty much a nice coat with a good nose.

I know you can buy rabbit traning sent but seams my local stores are bias and only stock bird sent. I've used other sents with treats and know she can do it but when it comes to rabbits she only fallows the tracks for a few feet than gets distracted.

If I bought a rabbit from the pet store and let it run around in the back yard do u think it would have the same kinda smell of a wild jack rabbit or Cotten tail?

Now before you bleeding hearts get involved I'm not here to let her mall it. Just fallow the tracks to it than giver a treat.

Ya I dout that would work to.....

What do ya do with no traning sent? Seams this dog lost the natural touch.

Ps. The wife picked her out. Still a good dog. Just addicted to pee it would seam.
 
Try training where there is no marking scent left by other dogs, my Brit hunts well but will always take a "moment" to mark if another dog or coyote has been in the area we are hunting. I'm sure you can get rabbit scent online ,but some dogs don't have a strong prey drive and would be difficult to train to course game.

Usually, but some need a kick start...If you know of someone who has a dog that does chase, pair them up..If he still doesn't chase, you have a house dog...It happens..
 
I have a beagle. My sister has pet rabbits. My dog does not seem to recognize that these are rabbits. When I say "Rabbit!", he runs and looks out the window. To him rabbits are big, live outside, and run really fast.
