I saw them personally in Angola/Uganda/Rhodesia in 1969 and in Cuba in 1974. In 1976 I saw a bunch of them on the Amazon River being used by mine guard/soldiers and river pirates.
In Cuba, they were quite prevalent. The rifles in Angola were new in crates by the warehouse full.
And I have some pictures of crates piled high of Colt "potato diggers" still in the box in Russia.
Hey bearhunter do you think anyone would believe the stuff we used to see at one time. Place deleted to protect the innocent##
Well, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
I know what I saw, and in each nation, the manufacturers were stamped into the receivers. They were definitely Canadian made FNC1s, along with all the necessary accessories.
During the time periods I'm talking about, Trudeau and Castro were seen as buds on the international scene. Trudeau even had pictures of Castro visiting and holding on to the babies.
A few years after the civil war in Angola settled down to minor skirmishes, Canada spent $25 million to build a school to teach French to the plebes. Funny thing though, hardly anyone in Angola spoke or even today speaks French. They speak either Portuguese or one of several different native dialects, including Bantu and Swahili variant dialects.
The Canadian made FNs in Brazil were both purchased from Canada by the Brazilian federal gov't or smuggled into Brazil by Cuban insurgents that were supplying the river pirates and claim jumpers.
I don't think it's a case of not believing but not wanting to believe.
You missed my BREN. (Inglis) And I can shoot it!
I have a hard time with the notion of Trudeau or anyone else supplying Cdn made FNs to Cuba or other countries. There were a host of makers and suppliers of various types of FN FALs in the 1960s/70's incl Brazil and, Argentina. There were/are many sources for either direct or 2nd/3rd party supply of small arms around the world. The end state of the Cdn FNs after replacement by the C7 was that they were overhauled by Diemaco and then put into long term storage in the Cdn Forces supply system until their ultimate disposal, save for a small quantity, by smelting.
Actually, I did see yours. As I was cutting them up, I saw yours and decided to spare it for some guy who would be able to enjoy it.You'e welcome.
Aint it great? If I want to shoot a Canadian made Bren, FAL, Sten or Stering, I have to go to the US. Go figure.
This thread is depressing....all those great guns smelted or given to commies or other scumbags, the price increases, the scarcity of milsurps these days....good stories, but depressing.
About 10 years ago I was cleaning the cosmo off of 3 pallets full of Danish Breda M-1 Garands. They were right out of some Danish arsenal, awesome shape, selling for 200$ a piece. I couldn't afford to buy even one of them, and I couldn't convince any of my idiot relatives to buy a bunch as an investment.....![]()
yes it is sad the days of cheap non bubba'd Lee-Enfields are over. Just wait eventually the SKS or SVT, or Nagants, will go up in value eventually for ones in the origional configuration. Thought my guess would be about 20 years time for this to take place.
That would be a blast. No pun intended. I don't think you could find a whole hell of a lot of PIAT bombs kicking around. ThanksPoints, if you ever get below the border, I can also let you look at my 1944 BSA WM20 that didn't get cut up either. Unfortunately we can't fire the PIAT or the 2 inch mortar since I can't find any live ammo![]()
Please let's keep the commies comments especially when you put " or other scumbag " away from public forums. Both of my grandfather fought in second world war. Over 200 000 000 "commies" died in that war. Just for you to understand this number it is population of Canada and USA at that time. I find this remark very offensive they deserve respect as much as any Canadian soldier who fought in World War two.
When you put it "given to commies or other scumbags" I understand that you mean commies as scumbag. If you did not mean it this way than I have no issues with this post.

No disrespect intended. Probably too big a generalization. Wasn't meaning your average footsoldier, but the leadership, and "other scumbags" was warlord types like in Africa. You know, like the UN loves? Please let's keep the commies comments especially when you put " or other scumbag " away from public forums. Both of my grandfather fought in second world war. A very reliable source advised that a large quantity, make that very large, of # 4s from 202 depot disappeared off inventory one weekend in the late 1970s ( I think it was). Also gadzillions of .303 rds including commercial from Canadian Tire. I understand there were some folks battling the Russians about this time. Don't quote me!
