New Remington 1911R1 5" Carry

Looks like it has a lot of nice features--checkered frontstrap, black rear sight with tritium front, beavertail safety. An SRP of $1299 US is a little surprising, though. I would have hoped to see something in the just below $1000 range...more like an upscale SR1911 or Spartan. For $1300 (or more, probably when it gets here) it's more expensive than most SIG 1911s (which it looks to compete with based on its features) and into the territory of some well-regarded pistols (e.g. S&W E-series, the newer Colts or STI's mid-range line like the Sentry or Lawman) that have more established reputations.

Looks nice. They're gonna start messing up people by calling it a "Carry" since it's 5" long barrel, no? If it's sub $1000 price, I may be interested after it's been well reviewed with positive feedback. Over $1000 and I'm looking at the more proven 1911s like STI, Colts, Kimber, Sigs etc.

No. If one wants to use a 1911 as a carry gun, it is best to stick to the 5", single stack, .45 ACP configuration, as it is more intrinsically more reliable than other configurations. Also, barrel length doesn't make much difference from a concealability standpoint.

I would like to know what, if anything, goes into these that set them apart from the other, budget-priced Remington 1911s.

"carry" usually just means that there aren't any sharp edges to catch clothes so when drawing in a concealed carry situation you won't get hung up and not be able to engage the target.

Ahh, thanks for clearing that up. I was always under the impression that "carry" size was 4.x" barrel length. Ya learn something everyday...

Nice pistol, but MSRP of $1299 is way too high, I'm sure the price will plummet when they don't sell. There may be better choices at that price point.
