First Black Rifle Advice: 3 Rules

Don't forget...ammunition!

This! If you can spend thousands on a rifle, better be willing to spend at least as much on ammo or you have wasted your initial investment IMO :ar15: That or it becomes a safe queen :slap: Speaking of "investments", ammo is one of the better ones around :D

Just buy KelTec products. Their value goes up with use. Just check the EE for proof.
I have 2 of them now and am on the list for another. I'm going to sell them in 10 years, retire, and live like a king.

To choose the best black rifle you must first grow a tactical beard so that you look like a pro then any rifle you buy will be the best and most accurate. A good beard weld is very important to tactical shooting.

Good advice, what i just went through in picking what my first black rifle would. Picking one of these to buy reminds me of motorbike shopping, read all the reviews but until you get to try one you have no idea. Too bad there's no demo days for black rifles. I ended up with a SL8.

Not really. I'm pretty sure I know the answer....having picked up a $1500 Rem last year......where apon the bolt fell on the floor and the extractor whent pinging across the store.

I think he asked because Remington doesn't build the R15. It's made for Remington by DPMS (pretty sure that's who it was anyway, been a while since I thought about those).

Demo days are going to the range and talking to the guys with the coolest guns. They will usually let you run a few rounds through their toys if you seem like a decent guy.
I let everyone at the range try all my toys when I'm there. A little supervision and guidance and you can let anyone try out your rifle or pistol. I let a 14ish year old boy shoot my 460V (with his dad's approval of course). He couldn't have been more than 120 pounds and he ran off a couple 45 Long Colt to get used to it then I handed him 5 fullhouse 460 loads and he was grinning from ear to ear the rest of the afternoon.
Helps get more people interested in the fun stuff. It's just fun trying someone elses rifle if it's something you've never shot before.
I've been lucky and have been offered a chance to shoot most stuff from .22's up to a couple different .50BMG's. Funny though that I had never shot an AR until I bought my own. Now I've bought 4 AR's and still own 2 of them.
Who's got a Tavor I can shoot? I've never even seen one of them at the range around here. Strange.

You should be happy with your SL-8, I had an early one that I had a couple issues with but it was a great shooter especially with the heavier bullets. As long as your happy with the way it looks it should be a good gun. They get really expensive when you want to start changing them and picking up spare mags. I suggest looking into buying an AR magwell conversion so you can buy $20 5/30 magazines for it.

I asked the guy behind the counter at my local gun shop about black rifles. He recommended this:

Has anyone used this black rifle for home defense SHTF WROL applications?

The one rule I live by is you get what you pay for, thats why I never even once considered the norinco, and i'm not by any means bashing the norinco either.

It needs more rails... where are you going to put all the flashlights and lasers?

You guys are being way too hard on NEA. Those problems were last week. That was only because substandard stuff from the week before was accidentally shipped out. Today's NEA has 50% Less suck!

Just got my second norc! Its an older one 311-1 20" fixed handle retro furniture
My first was a cqa 10.5, the extractor just gave up on it, no biggy under $20 its around 700 rnds, I use it for fun at the range, if I was in an actual combat situ, I'd just shoot the first guy with a "nicer" gun and use it! Lol lot cheaper way to trade up!

Wanna know when the AR market has finally hit rock bottom in terms of quality? When Savage decides they're missing out and enters the frey.

And of course Savage enthusiasts will claim their "version" of an AR is more accurate than any other on the market as they lay claim to have invented the barrel nut.
