Can someone with a T3 in a 308 case and/or 30-06 case measure the distance between feed lips on their T3 magazines (like I have in the picture below for the .223 case)? I recently picked up a Tikka T3 (.223 8 twist) and to my surprise the magazine is far to short to take advantage of the fast twist & heavier bullets or even the ability to simply kiss the lands and feed from the magazine. I know some have modified their magazines with a dremel but it would seem much easier to simply purchase a .308 or 30-06 magazine.

^This is another option, less work but you have to buy another $80 magazine.

Lastly you can go all out and get the CDI DBM that takes the AI 223 mags. In fact I noticed one on sale here today. Pricey but something to consider. I heard a rumor that Roedale Precision is coming out with a magazine that also addresses this problem, I wouldn't count on it being available anytime soon though.

Does the magazine support the maximum OAL of a 223 cartridge? If not, it doesn't meet the spec for 223 and is DEFECTIVE. Unless you're trying to load longer than max OAL of 223, this sounds like Tikka's problem and they should figure it out.

The dbm for the weatherby vanguard for example will take a full length 30'06/270 cartridge
. I've tried it. Anything less doesn't meet the spec of the cartridge.

That is the modification I was planning to do provided the feed lips on a longer magazine will feed the .223 case.

Had the same problem. My .223 T3 magazine would not accept 75 gr Amax.

I found the same problem when trying to load any of the 70gr - 80gr VLD/Amax from the magazine.

My T3 30-06 measures .379" at the back to .381" at the front. Plastic never failed me yet though.

Thanks Benington, getting closer but still to wide to feed the .223. Hoping someone with a .308 family magazine will supply the info.

Definitely loading beyond book COL, it's the only way to load +70gr bullets (VLD/Amax).
