I'm reading conflicting reports - some people say that their SKS takes Tapco mags without modification and others say that modification is required. Can someone shed some light on the subject? What modification is required :(if any).

If your gonna use 5/20 mags in a wood SKS stock you will have to sand down the inside of the stock just a wee bit I stole the wifes lippy and used that on the mag to get a tell tale where to sand. Absolute maximum 3 minute job................gettin the mag to work smoothly, well thats another story :(
Had to drive 60 km to get her a new lippy tho :)

My tapco magazines fit without sanding any wood. It's snug though. But the main problem is the bolt catch. The magazines need to be ground where they make contact with the bolt catch. By the bolt catch, I mean the sliding metal piece that slides up to stop the bolt from closing once the magazine is empty. It's easy enough to do.

Thats the only mod I had to do as well to get the mag to function properly. Took a few minutes to figure out the problem but only 30 seconds with the hack saw to fix the issue.

My Tapco Mag fit into my '53 Tula wood stock as well as my Tapco stock. No mod necessary. All I needed to do was work it in and out a few times. Cycles fine although I can't get it to accept my stripper clips.

Mitch from Section 8 sent me a pic of where you need to file if need be. I will see if I can find it and post it for you.

for the stripper clip just do that

just need a dremel !
