Took out my Savage Model 220 in 28ga this fall. No birds though.
Single shot?? No " A" after the 220 is there. You don't see many like yours in 28ga , rare gun you have there. They also made a 220 in a bolt but don't think any were 28 ga but I could be wrong.
Yep, single shot. The barrel is marked Savage Model 220. I don't see an "A" there though.
Cool. I will have to check what the A was on the one I seen
Found it. No letter is one of the first ones made between 1942 and 1950. SWEET
Wow thats awesome, thanks for looking into that! Seems like this is a bit of a rare bird eh. Any idea on approximate value?
Not a lot of info it seems out there on the 28ga other than it was not mass produced like the other gauges and only made a few years so yes I would say rare. No real idea on value other than a restored one a 220A just sold state side on one of thier gun auction sites for $225.Perhaps one of the other 28ga nuts here will chime in with more info
Thats a Beauty Be2man
Among other guns, YUP!
A Ugartechea and an American Arms hammmer double in 28.
Just bought a NIB older generation Wingmaster 28 gauge with Briley chokes, very sweet and much nicer than the current cheapened down private equity garbage that Remington is passing off as a Wingmaster. Will post pics when she arrives,
Patrick
Very cool. Congrats. Looking forward to seeing the pics cannot get a better combo especially with briley choke tubes
Yeah I had to look all over for one and found it in UT. The store owner had purchased 10 from an estate and this was the last one. Prophet river is handling the import process, should have it by X-mas. These versions are so much nicer than the current ones, not even the same gun actually,
I had very little chance to hunt upland birds this past fall, and when I did....... I was using my LCSmith 16
That said...... I did very much enjoy shooting my little pet AyA 28bore a couple evenings on duck shoots in Saskatchewan. She performed very well, using handloaded bismuth #6's.
I tried to shoot only birds that flew within 30 yards, and though small, the 28 is mighty! And what fun to handle .... Feels like holding a .22 after a morning in the field shooting my big & heavy 3" , 12ga BSS .
This .28 was formerly owned and loved by a dear friend who passed this year at 90 , so it holds a special meaning and great value to me. (Made in Spain , ca 1979)
