I sinned a few years back when I traded the best shooting Lithgow I have ever seen for a really nice m27. I have been seeking redemption ever since & I think I have found it. Take a look at these pics & let me know what you think of this poor sporter.

Yep, looks like either the bbl and butt were robbed off an HT sniper rifle, or they came off an H range rifle. I not the bbl S/N does not match the rifle, so they are a robbed set.

The early H barrels were deep cut rifling; yours is 1937 so deep cut. Later ones are shallow. Probably just as accurate though.

The scars on the barrel just ahead of the chamber suggest to me that this was a civilian re-barrel, and not a very skilled one.

Nice find though, those barrels are rare in Canada. Hopefully it's in good shape.

Forgive me for high jacking the thread but i have a SMLE Lithgow 1941 with heavy barrel. Until today, i never knew what i have. I bought the rifle like 20 years ago, my first milsurp. Was sporterized so i wanted to de-sporterize it, a gunsmith sold me forearm, handguards+all metal parts for $30. I'm not a wood worker so i made repairs on wood using wooden plugs(dont like plastic wood). At the time,i wondered why i needed to enlarge the barrel groove in the forearm so the barrel would sit in nice, now today i know why:)

Bore has a few spots of corrosion but damned good over all. Now I need to find wood and a nosecap.
