Stevens 512 Goldwing 12 Ga O/U

Hi every one
Just wanted to share my experience with this shotgun, i hope it helps people make inform decision if they are looking to buy this particular gun, I purchased this shotgun about 9 months ago before buying this i heard a lot of problems with firing pin/ Trigger but i ignored it and went ahead and bought it, took it to the range once and put about 100 rounds no problem, then this weekend i took it to the range and after putting about another 100 rounds the bottom barrel would not fire then both of them fired at once which gave me a good bruise, anyways after that both barrel stop firing all together the trigger wouldn't do anything and the gun was completely broken, the gun is still under warranty but the fact that i only used it twice before breaking makes me really disappointed, please if anyone is looking to buy this particular gun my advise is to stay away from this junk save your money and get a decent over under unless if you want to use it as broom stick.
 
Yep,those Turkish guns like the Silver Reserve remind me of the old Trooper song"A 3 dressed up as a 9",they look pretty good but their junk.

Careful now there are quite a few of those mossy silvers with a few 1000 rounds through them now with no issues. Yes the initial ones had soft firing pins but if you buy one after certain serial numbers for each gauge the new pins are fine or put the new pins in the old ones .Like a 20 minute job and they will give you the parts free Yes I have one in 28ga just because it is a 28ga and so far so good.
Is it the quality of my browning O/U NO but for what I paid it doesn't bother me when it gets a ding from the trees either and the birds don't know the difference.
For the guy that just hunts and uses a few boxes a year and doesn't want to spend a few grand on a O/U they serve the bill.
I have not fired the stevens 512 enough to comment but once again not a 12ga. There are lemons in every model of gun produced even 1100's. take care

I have an old early mint browning auto 5 that I love. I can't shoot it to save my life. All I see is the back of the receiver. Even though I don't shoot it I can't bring myself to sell it
 
I absolutely crush ducks at long range with my 1959 Auto 5. The stock is short (not sure if it was altered) and it's my go-to gun for late season when I'm wearing bulky clothes. It just fits.

Regarding the Mossberg silver reserve.. I also had one in 28, and it was a decent-looking gun that I had no real problems with. Other than the weight! Dang thing weighed about 8 pounds. I sold it & got a Beretta. I had considered the Goldwing briefly but saved my pennies.. Not sure yet if it was worth it, since I haven't fired it much yet. Safety is a bit stiff...

Yep, I looked at one in WSS in 2008. Soon as the guy handed it to me I held it for about 1 minute and told him no thanks. The gun I had, had terrible fit of wood to metal and that thing they call a gold pheasant glued on the side almost made me puke. I can't speak about reliability because I never took it beyond the counter. I then held a CZ canvasback and that's what I took home that day. While both Turkish guns, the CZ was far superior in my opinion.

CZ better gun for sure but you don't get a CZ for $559 which is what I paid for a 512.

True. The canvasback I bought was 20 gauge and I paid $750.00 for it at the time. The extra $200.00 dollars was well worth it in my mind. This is where one has to say to themselves, "do I really have to have an over/under right now or should I maybe save a little more".

You must have bought it when they were falling off the shelf at prophet river for a unreal low price of 759 or what ever it was. Last two I seen when you can find one was a 16 for 999 and a 12 for 899. 512 are in the 579-599 range still.
Personally I only bought them because they were 28ga and agree if I am only going to have one O/U I would save also for a higher end gun but again depends on how much one plans on shooting it.

Actually, at the time, I bought it from MacDonald's sporting goods in Portage La Prairie and he ordered it in for me. But true, right now it is not super easy to find a CZ. I actually talked to the owner of MacDonald's Sporting Goods this past weekend and asked him if he still handles CZ's and why they are so hard to find this past year in Canada. He told me it was basically because the Canadian distributor did not handle his order properly or on time. That and the fact that most are marketed for the U.S. first.

I also tried to order a 28ga in the past 6 months and both site sponsors initially said no problem I will get back to you with a price.Both later indicated no small gauge CZ were being brought into canada this year. Not sure of the reason their distributor gave them .
Strange when there is guys in canada wanting to buy them.
