3.5" Chambered Tactical Semi-Auto Options

I'm curious what kind of options are available for a semi-auto shotgun chambered for 3.5" 12ga shells. The only ones I've seen are the Remington 1187 and Versamax. Both would need some work to make them more tactical like.

Also, does anyone know how many 2.75" shells you could fit in an extended mag tube that holds five 3.5" shells?
 
Maybe Remington can be convinced to modify a version of their upcoming Versamax R12 for the Canadian market?

The actual barrel length may or may not be long enough to be classed nonrestricted, and they're marked 3" even though they have a 3.5" chamber like the other Versamax versions.

The reason is said to be that shells can get damaged from recoil in the extended magazine when 3.5" shells are shot.

As I said, you could covert a regular Remington 1187 Super Mag Synthetic. You'd need to have a smith cut the barrel down to 18.5/19 inches, refinish the barrel, add a mag tube extension pinned to five 3.5" shells, drill and tap to add an optic rail or ghost rings. I don't even know if short stocks are available for the 1187.

All of that adds up quickly. Likely paying over $1200 for everything. I was just wondering if there are any other 3.5" chambered semi auto models out there.
 
Not too many considering how much oomph that 3.5" shells pack. I got some 3.5" oo buckshot and I still haven't decided to put it into my Supernova Tac 14" because of how much recoil they have.

I do understand wanting to get that extra capacity with the 5 3.5" shells but I think getting the 1187 or something similar and then building it up over time is probably the best bet.


I have personally never seen any tactical style autoloader in 3.5" only the 1187's, Benelli SBE or Super Vinci (sporting shotguns)
 
I know I've asked this unasnwered, but, the new Versamax sportsman seems to be the solution.

Buy one, add a nordic extension, cut it down from 26/28" to ~22, and you're good to go. ~$1000?

From what I've read the regular 26/28" Versamax's are marked as 3.5" right? That's 7 rounds of 2 3/4"....

Other than a 22" barrel (not quite 19, but close enough?) its got all the "tactical" stuff.

From what I've read, all Versamax models have 3.5" receivers, but the Versamax Tactical model has a 3" chambered barrel, and is stamped as such. That would mean the mag tube could only be extended to five 3" shells.

EDIT: Sorry Mossberg 935 only does 3", but their Waterfowl model does 3.5". It's all black, 28" barrel maybe you can shorten or change out.

Anyone care to speculate on the effect of shortening the barrel on the gas system and cycling? or is it a non issue?

A Benelli super black eagle 2 could be a starting point for this.

Check my thread about my Versamax Tactical, I measured the chamber and confirmed it to be 3.5" same as any other VM.

Of course it matters, it means you can safely shoot 3.5" shells out of the gun. He asked for tactical semis chambered in 3.5" and the VM Tactical most definitely is one. Now, if his reasoning for wanting 3.5 is higher capacity then the marking is indeed all that would matter.

My post that you quoted yourself clearly indicates that I am looking for a 3.5" stamped barrel semi, so as to take advantage of the additional mag capacity.
 
I recognize that, I'm just contributing the info that a Versamax Tactical is a real 3.5" gun, in case it matters to you or anyone else ;)
