Does anyone know offhand how hot the Canadian military ammo is, and what bullet weight?

I've got not quite a couple of hundred rounds of IVI 7.62 from the 70's and a few rounds of DA from before that; I was wondering if the Norc M14's would take a beating with this stuff. I know the FN's they were meant to be fired in had adjustable gas regulators.

You'll be fine, I find the IVI rather underpowered compared to my safe handloads. I see a much lower POI at 3-400 meters. I also have a problem with them cycling the action reliably with my USGI op rod spring.

just don't expect any great shakes as far as grouping goes- esp the ivi stuff- it's all built to nato spec( or so i've been told) and seeing as the chinese m14s are supposed to be clones of the m14, i would expect at least similar performance - there's lots of guys using winchester 150 commercial on here, and that's loaded HOTTER with no ill effects

I had some old DA 60 surplus when I got my first M14. It definitely did NOT match the rifle. Was shooting 6" groups at 50 m. Was glad I only had 20 rounds of it. It's amazing how picky these M14s can be about their ammo. I haven't tried any of the 70s IVI.

IVI and DA are loaded to full power. Velocity of the 147gr bullet will be between 2850 and 3000 fps depending on barrel length. Pressures are in the 55,000 to 60,000 psi range.

Some lots of DA are very accurate in bolt rifles. It is old ammo now, so it depends how it has been stored.
