which shotgun sights for close engagements/slugs?

This is my bear/zombie paranoia gun- a fabarm 14" barrel. Im looking for the best sights for close up quick shots- not sure if that would be a bead because I have trouble snap shooting things at 30 ish yards and even closer with a bead.


Heres the kicker- it cant be ghost rings. Too bulky/too much to snag on and my shotgun is very KISS at the moment.

I read a bit about the benelli R1 sights being pretty quick rifle sights- opinions welcome!!
 
I can't think of anything quicker than a bead at that distance. Not even ghost ring sights. Maybe two beads a foot apart or so. Big one on the end and a small one 12" (ummm 300mm) back?

Agree.
I have various setups and prefer bead over ghost rings -- for speed, no contest.
But I learned on a bead and some guys are the opposite.
To maximize speed, instead of a regular bead you could use a Big Dot, which you'll pick up a fraction quicker.
Big plus small bead behind is excellent. I use that for sporting clays where speed counts for so much.
 
Nothing wrong with ironsights either. I prefer them to ghost rings and i have both. Bead would be second with ghost rings last.
 
I like red fibre optic sights for close range and/or moving targets. I find them quicker than beads.

HiViz makes something for lots of different guns.
Cheap and easy to instal.
 
thanks for mentioning that man- I hadnt thought of a small bead/big bead combo.

Gives me something to ponder. defenitely bead combo vs rifle sights. hmmm...
 
bead and two eyes open. It takes a lot of practice to train your brain to aim with two eyes open, but when it finally clicks it is as fast as it gets. Zombies stand no chance.
Any dot scope will slow you at short distances. The place where dot scopes shine is when you have to aim at a relatively large target (zombie or animal size target) at mid-range. Instead of aligning rear and front sights you just point a dot - in this case dot wins any time. When a target is too far the effectiveness of a dot drops off again.

Two eyes open is something Im working on. Its all uphill 'cause Im having to switch to left side but ive only been shooting for a couple years.

The love for the bead and the fibreoptic interests me. Especially for a gun whos use is solely for slugs- albeit at close ranges. Definitely something to think about as I pick up some slugs and try my bead out.
 
+1 for both eyes open.

For close, fast shooting with shotguns, the sight should be more a point of referrence than an iron-clad indicator as you "shoot where you look", assuming proper gun fit and cheek weld.

Its best to just let your mind go and not try to overthink it.

Picture trying to hit a target with a snowball or water balloons, you're not trying to close one eye or align a sighting system, nope its all proper hand eye coordination basically.
 
+1 for a fiber-optic front bead. Since you mentioned a zombie-paranoia/bear gun build, it might be worth looking into a tritium bead also- good at night, and stays with your KISS philosophy. Once you've decided on a sight type, practice, practice, practice! Know where to have that bead sitting to put shot/slugs where you want them, then practice shouldering it to get that sight picture with both eyes open.
