Help me choose a POLY 45acp

I am a 1911 guy - I own em, I love em, I shoot classic division. You get the picture:D I have also owned a cz97 and liked it (fit my hands fine) but sold it to a friend with freakishly large hands. I anticipate alot of SIG 220 recommendations but I don't want another steel 45acp that has 8 round capacity.

I have decided to try a poly frame 45acp as my next pistol mainly because I reload 45 already. I have shot a glock 17 and an M&P 9mm and held a gen 4 glock 22 but that is the extent of my poly experience. Are the 45 versions typically much larger grip wise or close to the same?

In my mind it will be a glock 21 / M&P45 / Springfield XD 45 / or FNP 45. From my reading they will all be reliable and have similar accuracy. The triggers can all be improved by tinkering and I am addicted to tinkering so that's not a problem. So for the price (considering the cost of mags, of which I prefer 6-10) what would be your choice? I would love to try before I buy but unfortunately that's not an option on the Island. Any Vic locals want to let me try I will buy lunch and provide ammo;)

I'm taking delivery of my new Taurus 24/7 G2 in .45acp next week... I use to own a Gen 1 and loved it so I'm hoping to have a similar experience with the G2. I will slap some pics up when it comes.
 
i simply love my USP 45 Tactical...one of the nicest .45's i have. the price is up there, but worth it imho.

If you are wanting a 10rd mag capacity in a polymer pistol, you will have a fat grip... not much getting around it. 1911 and Sig 220 are probably the 2 best metal 45's out there. I had a CZ97b and it doesn't stack up against my 220, which has superior ergonomics in my opinion. USP45/HK45 are expensive but are great guns. Again, you'll have large grip sizes for the extra capacity.

The Glock/M&P guys will soon jump in... lots of choices for you. Best to try them all if you can at the range and see which fits you best.
 
FN, H&K, Glock then M&P. In order. FN's are going for great prices these days. Questar has then in stock and on sale..

Are you looking for SA/DA, striker?
 
The HK's look nice but the price is a bit out of my range for a gun that may well become a 'rental'. I do like that glock has a million parts available which appeals to me but damn they look ugly! The FNP looks good and good reviews but not sure about what parts/accessories are available for it.

Not sure what that means, HK's are great pistols, expensive but just as reliable as anything made. Don't think you'd get rid of the HK soon after you bought it, unless the grip was too large. Most would agree with the Glock's lacking beauty. Looks like you are down to a Springfield or M&P.
 
I have a xd45 I'm going to put up soon I shot ipsc with it very accurate and reliable.

I will be selling for a good price so keep your eyes open

I just meant that unless I fall in love it probably won't be in my possession for long. I would flog it for a loss and move to another one. Basically becomes a rental that costs me a few hundred bucks.
 
My money would go to either the M&P45, which I believe to be the best of the M&P series, or the Gen 4 G21. I'd prefer the M&P but I have lots of stuff that would fit a G21, so could go either way. They're both good pistols. The HK stuff is very well built but pricey, and I can't get along with HK triggers. Plus you have to pay HK mag prices, and availability is limited.

I don't know anything about the FN.

I would not buy an XD or Taurus.
 
I do believe that iwi jerecho941 is now available in poly and .45, built like a tank and great shooter....whatever you chose....enjoy.

I simply love my FNP 45, well balanced, great SA trigger, rugged, full ambi, great looking, and very low recoil for a .45auto. My 11 yo daughter shoots it like a queen!
 
You forgot the cool pelican case!

This one was my choice as well... ...low-mileage, 2nd hand wasn't all that expensive.

Wish they had designed the hammer a bit more symetrical looking with the slide cut though...

I went for the HK USP figuring that if I didn't like it I would flog it and get another. I still have it. I am asking myself why I keep the 1911 around now too. Bought extra mags for the HK and probably won't bother with another auto ever again.

Contrary to the poster above - I don't think the HK is over priced. This gun is as accurate as it gets and rock solid reliable. Guns of this quality and accuracy do not come cheap.
