Can anyone identify this 22?

I've got an old 22 that I bought from an older gentlman +20 years ago.

I've used it every year since, and regularly plink with it.

For awhile I've been wondering who made it, and an approximate ago.

I bet someone on here can help!

There isn't a serial number, and the only marking is "Sport 22 long rifle".

It's 33" long and weigh 2.5lbs.

I think that's a Cooey model 39

i've been looking at google photos of the cooey 39 and the bolt and rear sights look different.

were there different types of 39's made?

No its not a 39. Looks to be a cooey ace. I have had a few of them in the past.

They haven't even figured out just how many different guns Cooey even made period let alone how they changed over the years.

saw pics of the aces as well, but the barrels are stamped "ace".

this one has a fixed rear sight.

We have one of these at the cottage and my father has always refered to it as a cooey ace. I love it it is nice and light to carry and fun !!!

It is a Cooey Ace style. From John Belton's book it is a small single shot boy's rifle marked "Sport .22 Long Rifle. It had a walnut stock and no buttplate. It is circa 1926.

mine isn't marked ace, and i've seen photos online with ace marked on them, but if your reference book says it is, i'll go with that!

Ace, Rabbit, Canuck Jr., Eatonia. They had many names, depending on who sold them at the time.

The Ace, and Canuck were actual Cooey branded models, not store brands. One's such as Eatonia, Ranger, Mowhawk, Hawkeye, Mercury, Sniper, Sure Shot and Rabbit were store brand names .

i was thinking of doing the stock and barrel over, but not now.

The accurate barrel life of a well cared-for .22rf would be in the neighbourhood of 100,000 rounds, and you could probably double that for for the usably accurate life.
Even a well used 90 year old gun has probably had less than 50k down the tube.
As well, I've read that the way Cooey bored and rifled it's barrels they all had a slight choke at the muzzle, making them very accurate for inexpensive, light weight sporters.

As for refinishing it, I don't think there is any collector value there; but you should also remember that the Savage "Cub", the Henry "Mini bolt Youth" and the Cricket rifles are all over $200, and approaching $250, so take care of it.

I'd love to find a couple of these in usable shape for my 2 y-o twins!

Its a nice little rifle. Super light. What a nice little thing for a trapper, ive often thought.
