Butler Creek mags jamming?

try leaving them loaded for a few day to break the springs down. then run them with 20 rds for a few times out, should be ok after a while

I also picked up the speed leader. its sweet. I shot twice as much today and my fingers stayed clean.

Glad to hear it helped! As I mentioned before, it's a bit of trial and error. As you said you were going to do, give it a few more shots and from the top as well and your problem should be a thing of the past! :)
 
I have put thousands upon thousands of rounds through my 10/22 with two metal-lipped Buttler Creek mags without much trouble at all. I can probably count on two hands the total malfunctions I have had, and that includes ammo malfunctions. Most of the ammo was American Eagle. I load to 25 every time.
 
Then you my friend are lucky, I put about 700 rounds threw mine yesterday after fixing the mags a bit and had probably about 25 to 35 miss loads, I pretty much was able to fill a whole box of 50 with bent, mangles rounds.
 
My 2 older steel lip BC mags work very well, but the 2 newest steel lip mags I bought from Bass Pro are total crap. The tolerances look off when comparing to the older ones that work flawlessly. It's like BC stopped caring after Ruger released their BX-25 mags. Some1 mentioned that promag seem to have a 2nd gen mag that's supposed to be an improvement.

Thanks again. I went out today and hit the mags with another shot of the graphite lube from the top and bottom of the mags and they both worked fine.

I have 3 BC mags all steel lips. 1 of them gives me trouble but only with blazer ammo. It would bend the round, my mags need a good cleaning and hopefully it works itself out.
 
Have you tried leaving them loaded and put away for a week or two? Sometime the springs need to get broken in a bit. This has been true with all my magazines for all my guns. I have 2 bc 25rd mags and they work awesome. Probably 8,000-10,000 ounds through them. Lately I have been using winch M-22's and zero problems for the last 3,000 rounds or so. Never clean 'em, other than a quick blast of air from my compresser and wipe down the steel lips. And they work great with the BC mag loader which is a must have. If you can avoid the hollow point varmint rounds and get the round-nose copper coated stuff I think you will find hang ups and jamming issues will go away.
 
Mags all fit differently in various guns... some are a snug fit, others have some play. I have a dozen steel lips mags and they all perform perfectly... try giving the bottom of the magazine a press toward the muzzle after it has been seated in the mag well... FTL's are usually caused by a bad feed angle from a poorly seated magazine... some will require subtle fitting... using a fine flat file and/or a rag doused with acetone. I occasionally do a flush of the mags using and action cleaner and then drain and dry them out before fogging them "lightly" with a dry graphite lube... Bob's Your Uncle!
 
I am about to throw mine away. It is faster using my 10 rounder and reloading it than dealing with jams and weird double feeds.
 
Picked up a BC-25 steel lips mag & a BC mag loader for xmas. Will update after xmas when I try it out.

***UPDATE***
Fired 200 rounds with this magazine and it worked perfect. Loaded to the max and fired as fast as I could pull the trigger.

got 2 bc hotlips, neither of them fed one single round, the tab on the bolt that's supposed to pick up the bullet was hitting the magazine instead and it wouldnt close.

got 2 steel lips, work ~30% of the time

2 factory ruger 10s, never a problem
 
Is there anyone in Canada that sells the Tacticl Innovations magazines? I just bought a BC mag, used it for two full clips and returned it. Had the bent rounds everyones talking about.
 
I bought 2 steel lips and ran a couple of full mags worth thru my sr22 on Sunday. 1 of them worked perfectly, the other had ftf and fte where the casing was hitting the new round somehow. Haven't tried graphite yet, but will pick some up for next time out. The stock 10 round worked perfectly. Have left both sitting in the gun safe with 25 rounds in them. This was all with Win 555 hp rounds.
 
BC has a lifetime warranty on their mags I think... Send em back, get new ones.

I have used 3 so far, first one flawless, second two were nothing but trouble. I found it was feed lip related. I had to stone down the top of the mag steel lip some now they are flawless.

I haven't had the bent cartridge issue yet though.

That said... Don't go throwing away your mags... I'll take em. :) Always can use more steel lip 10-22 mags. ;)
 
I've had mixed results over the years (including bent rounds), all were corrected by tweaking the mags and/or the rifle. The feed design of the 10/22 is certainly not infallible. I think since the stock 10-rd mags seem to have better fit in the receiver overall, rifle-related feed issues are less common with them.
 
I bought 4 steel lipped BC mags and they all had issues with feeding the first few rounds. Some graphite lubrication definitely helps and they get better as they break in but I won't be buying any more. I bought some champion brand mags from my local gun shop and they work flawlessly right out of the box, so that's all I'm buying from now on unless Ruger eventually brings BX-25s or some version thereof to Canada.
 
just received 2 steel lips from SFRC yesterday. I like them better than 10/22 rotary mag so far.Yes I graphited them,and left them loaded for a day. smooth :)
