New shooter, 5R Milspec.

Please don't waste $$$ on lesser glass. I wrote a review ( stickied at top of page ) partly because I did, indeed, do exactly that. Save up for a good quality scope that will last you a long time. For your rifle I suggest you look at the Sightron Siii 8-32 for about a thou or so. Buy better if your budget allows.

I've never been impressed with Nightforce myself. Not as bright as you'd expect for the money. I'd take a Swaro over one any day.

I have been emailing Jerry from Mystic Precision, he has been very helpful in recommending scopes. So far it looks like the SIII model for sure, either 6-24x50 or 8-32x56. With the Burris XTR rings, any suggestions on how to get the lowest possible rings?, and a Farrel steel one piece base.

One other thing i have been looking at is the first focal plane scopes and was wondering how much of a practical difference that made?

I really appreciate all the feedback guys.

Cheers, Monk.

Is it absolutely imperative that you have to range past 700m using just your scope? If not, FFP is not necessary.

50/50 once again depends of the type of shooting your doing, if you have the time to sit there and dial in your elevation and windage, then SFP is nice and u can zoom way up and keep really thing x-hairs, if your shooting more "tacticool" at varying distances shot after shot, then FFP is nice as you can range the target at any magnification, and shoot useing pure hold overs on any mag
