I am interested in doing my pal and rpal saftey course. Does anyone here recommend any instructions here in the gta? I dont mind traveling, I live North of vaughan.

Thanks

I just took all three of mine in South end of Barrie with Dino who is IPSC Exec. Trainer and ex Barrie Gun Club Pres. Very Good Course nice clean classroom and includes Meals on site so the class time is shorter as you cover things while you eat.

I took mine at Ready Aim, would highly reccomend them to anyone. In and out, stayed on topic, clean, and lots of hands on practical work. Give Bruna a call.

I took my course with Firearms Academy of Canada who runs the RPAL course at the Days Inn near Wilson and Jane. Very informative and lots of hands-on instructions.

You can also get the PAL and RPAL course material for free online...study it....then take the challenge test.

Not all training schools will let you just challenge the test as they feel if you can't spend 1 or 2 days to learn about guns .... more stuff in the class then in the books. Hands on and videos that were very good. Plus lots of good questions and tips about cleaning and ranges and such plus meet some nice people and fellow firearms folks.

I took mine through Target Sports in Gormley, and I was satisfied with the level of professionalism. I think they have links to upcoming courses on their website. I've taken civi and mil courses, and imo, it never hurts to take the full course (if even as a refresher), than to challenge the exam. Also, imho, as with pretty much any subject, one can learn it from a book, but an instructor with that background will always provide additional information that isn't in the books. Good luck! :)

just to update everyone... I booked my pal and rpal at york region firearms academy... i completed the course and pass both exams. I highly recommend these guys, their professional and very experienced. They operate out of a commercial unit and not out of someone's house which is one of reasons i decided to go with them.

I plan to take my hunters ed there in the future .

I am trying to decide on where I will sign up myself.

I have two locations close to me. One is run out of a commercial unit, has a website etc. Ready Aim Firearms Safety. About 15/20 min from my house.

The other is run out of the persons house. I asked all the right questions like, is he recognized by the CFO of Ont,years of experience etc.. His reply was

"We are glad to see you are looking into the course specifics. From what we
hear from others that attend our course, there are a lot of questionable
sources out there recently.

To answer your questions....Yes the course is run out of our house. I am a
certified instructor with the Chief Firearms Office of Ontario. My
information can be found on the official FSESO website. I have been
teaching this course for about 18 years, have over 25 years of firearms
experience and about 22 years as a law enforcement firearms instructor.

I hope this clarifies any questions you may have. If you have others,
please don't hesitate to contact me.
John"

So he seems more than qualified. Should the fact that it is run out of his home be a concern?

Like others, i am highly recommending York Regional Firearms Academy (Richmond Hill) to anyone looking in the area.

Every instructor brought something to the course, and all had their unique experiences, skills and interests.

They were experienced, knowledgeable and friendly.
