Yes all early AR type rifles were 1/12 until the introduction of the 62 grain bullet by NATO .. A 1/12 twist is the best most accurate twist rate for a 55 grain bullet but anything heavier it sucks .. But that said most people are shooting 55 gr in Canada because we cant really get the cheap bulk 62gr up here .. The most accurate AR i own is my Colt SP1 1/12 pencil barrel .. Even with that thin barrel its much more accurate than my other ARs when shooting 55gr ammo. But the downfall to 55gr ammo is it has a bit less effective range then a 62 gr.
55gr bullets do tend to suffer in the wind at longer ranges. This is only an issue if shooting at extended ranges.
Biggest shortcoming with these rifles from my point of view is that options for mounting optical sights are limited. Putting a scope on top of the carrying handle results in the scope being way higher than necessary.

I believe Moe is just letting folks know that the rifle has a 1 in 12 rate of twist. Some guys might not know that the CQ311 has that twist & if you intend to shoot heavier bullets they likely won't stablize as you might expect...

It's a good point that he brought that up. I just don't see your typical AR user going to the expense and effort to shoot anything other than basic run of the mill 55gr. FMJ ammo on a regular basis, especially someone who opts to shoot a low end AR. So, I think that the twist rate is fine for that rifle and is a non-issue. Sure, it's not current "mil-spec" but that could be said for the entire rifle.
I agree whole heartedly with tiriaq's comments on the issue of optics. Shooting with the bottom of your chin resting on top of the stock gets old rather quickly.

Everything else being equal a shorter barrel will have a slower muzzle velocity. A slower MV will lower the RPM of the bullet. So lets say a 1 in 12" twist is ideal for a 20" barrel shooting a 55gr, a shorter barrel would need a faster twist rate to produce the same RPM.

ETA: I am pretty sure most who posted in this thread are well aware of the above. Just want to make sure we are clear for anyone else who starts reading this and thinks he now needs to get a 1 in 12" twist for his 14.5" or 16" barrel...
Got my $350 norc in the mail today. Came with a US made 30/5 magazine and a free marstar hard case. awesome deal!! You guys need to watch marstars facebook. they put up that they had some new used guns in and would be listing that day so i watched there site and when the norcs poped up i pounced. you got to be fast on the big deals. i am prob going to post some pics i already started to put some mods on this gun.
