AR15 without handguard

I have seen a grip attachment for the front of your mag well, some sort of tactical dealy. Might work for you here.

From FAB defense.

But as mentioned, you would need to be careful as I cannot think of a single firearm that is "intended" to be used without a handguard or heat deflector of some kind.

If you're only planning to fire a mag through the gun off a bench rest, and then take it apart again, you'll be fine without handguards if you grasp the gun by the magwell. Just don't touch the gas tube. However, if you're ultimately going to end up putting handguards on it, why not do it now?

reason is:
I have a spare upper that does not work well and some extra parts.
Just trying to test different parts and get it working, without having to touch my current working upper.

i'm cheap and don't want to buy a handguard, if I won't be able to fix it

What's not working on the upper? Maybe if you described the issue, then people here can help you out. There isn't really much going on, on an upper... there's only so much that can go wrong.

FTE after every round.
Going to take it apart, put it back together, clean, oil then test.
Then replace BCG, etc.. as I go along until I get it working.
