308 AR... Looking for Options

Get an R25 and trick her out with the money you saved or buy an LMT/KAC and call it a day.
Piston in 308...
Well I would stick with my M14 for the $$$ I can hit stuff at 750 meter's all day long and don't have to only shoot it at the range. But none the less she is a money pit ;)

You looking for a carbine or more of a precision setup ?

Lmt gets my vote for precision.
Kac emc for all around use.
Pws for shorter range, high volume use.

Because when shooting paper, you have to pretend which .308 you use matters???

Ya. The KAC EMC is great for All Around Use???. You see them everywhere?? LOL Is there even any in the country? :stirthepot2:

Shoot paper at 25M and at 200M. You get to shoot it all around............

How do you like yours? How many rounds? What kind of optics you run on your KAC EMC?

sorry....to much rum tonight,

Way too much rum, lol !
The kac does everything well, soft recoiling and light enough for use as a typical carbine.
The lmt has a bit more accuracy with the ss barrels, but is heavier, and recoil is more significant.

I'd say choice of rifle matters more for something that will be used to only shoot paper, the performance of you and your rifle is right there on paper, in black and white. A better rifle equals better performance.

My friend has a KAC and my Armalite is more accurate. :p so there.

DPMS or R25 is the cheapest and easiest way to go. Up here in canada paper, golf balls, rock and other stuff at the range tends not to fire back.

Spend the extra money you save from buying utility on: the optic, match trigger and reloading.

Look for abhobbiest in the EE, he usually has nice 308 AR's and he knows what he's doing when it comes to AR's.

Based on a statistically meaningless sample size of one, I'd vote for Armalite. The one Armalite AR-10 I have shoots way, WAY above its pay grade with Israeli ball ammo -- producing small enough groups that there was absolutely no sense in trying to develop handloads for that rifle. Sadly, my supply of that ammo is getting a bit thin, so I'll soon have to see if I can get some Sierra MK's to group as well.

I did own one other Armalite, that one being a AR-15. Together, these were the only two AR's I've owned (out of more than a dozen) that produced consistent 5-shot MOA or better groups out to 300 meters. Maybe I just got lucky -- but so far, I have a lot of respect for their product.

My experience also. With my AR10 I once out scored a reserve sargent shooting next to me using his a Swiss Arms .223; range 500 meters.

Personally, given the added cost of 308, I'd expect at least moa or better performance out of a 308 pattern ar.
Unfortunately the rifles that give that kind of performance on a regular basis aren't cheap.
An lmt mws with the ss barrel is solidly sub moa on the average.
This is an average 300 yard group, not a cherry picked one:

OK, it will be a paper puncher for me as I already have a Stag Arms 3Gs on order... That being said, I LOVE the DPMS LRT-SASS...

As for price, Under $2500 would be nice... I already have a Leupold VXR and Nice one-pice mount for it, so I have $2500 to spend on just the gun... (Although I could go over this budget for the right piece...)

Anyone have any insight on the DPMS LRT-SASS???

You roll the dice with them.
You might get an accurate one you may get a 2 moa one.
That said, a barrel change is usually all that's needed to get them in the slightly sub moa range.

Good shooting ntm  I'm gonna' turn my targets sideways now too... :p

^^^ If that's the true level of performance of your AR, I hope you're never in a position where you're forced to sell it. That's anything BUT typical accuracy for the design. A lot of varmint barrelled bolt guns would be jealous of that.

They are good for all-round use. My LMT MWS was a pig; shooting the thing as a carbine was like swinging a sledgehammer. With a muzzle brake, it still recoiled more than my EMC with a flash hider. I was blown away by the difference and sold my MWS a week later.

EMC's are however quite expensive.

I've used one in a carbine course, in a precision rifle course, and as a general purpose blaster.

I like mine. ~2500 rounds so far. Swapping around between an Aimpoint T-1 Micro and a Vortex Razor 5-20 (waiting for a Leupold Mk6 or Mk8...)

HK lasts the longest hands down...
KAC is probably the nicest and most refined.
LMT would be under KAC but for the money can't go wrong with that choice, probably best gun with cost in consideration.
POF would be interesting but there not readly available.
Armalite may be the most accurate.
DPMS you are definetly gambling.
