I am trying to get a new 1911, and came close to getting a Ruger SR1911, but decided to step back and evaluate my options. I have also upped my budget and wants, as I want this to be my main 1911 for quite some time. Looking to spend no more than $1500 all in delivered.

I am looking for a stainless 1911 that has the following out of the box;

Full sized 5"
Extended grip safety
Target sites (Bomar style)
Ambi safety
Full length guide rod
Forged frame and slide
No rail
Good reputation and solid warranty
* Internal Extractor :)

So far that leads me to the Springfield Loaded Stainless. Can anyone see other options that I may have overlooked?

They both have the external extractors tho as far as I know. And just based on looks alone, I am not a fan. Also, I think unless you went used, they would be over the $1500 limit all in from what I understand.

ETA: I stand corrected on price, just checked Questar for the Sig 1911 Stainless Target, but I still have the external extractor issue.

The rugers seem to be hit and miss. I know some members have reported quality control problems and poorly fit parts, but the one I ordered from wolverine is fantastic. Very tight and smooth. Plus it gives you plenty of money left over and some .45 that is by no means cheap.

STI Trojan...

None of those off-the-shelf options interest me, personally (except maybe the STI). If I were in your shoes, I'd send a query to Dlask. I wouldn't be surprised if he would be able to build what you're looking for at that pricepoint, or damn close to it.

Well, that is interesting Hitzy. Did not know the Trojan came in stainless version, news to me. I also found a Kimber Stainless Target. So looks like I need to research; Springfield Loaded Stainless, STI Trojan Stainless and the Kimber Stainless Target. Thanks all.

Kimber or STI then, pretty sure SA slides and frames are sourced from Brazil. May not matter, but makes for a hell of a markup....

relliott, the Sentry is $1600 for a blued version, and hard chromed is an additional $300, so that puts it over what I was looking at.

Didn't realize you wanted chrome. At your price point I doubt you would be able to get that in a new gun. I mentioned the Sentry because it's the closest I can think of to your price point with those features. Also, that is from the Canadian distributor who cannot discount in order to protect his dealers. A hundred bucks isn't a huge gap, and you might be able to get a better price if you check the dealer list and make a few calls.......

Just a thought.

Was hoping for stainless at that price point, I just mentioned chromed as that is the only option visually similar to stainless in that firearm. Even the Trojan is not avail. in stainless, only hardchromed optionally (called STI to confirm).

Just one thing to consider - if You are on the limited budget (which appears to be the case) - remember that the cost of gun is nothing, comparing to the cost of .45 ammo.
1911 is very universal, easily customizable, durable platform. You may go lower, buy the used, but not abused gun off the EE and after a while customize it up to your own specifications,
when You will EXACTLY know what You want. You may be surprised how useless are some of the very popular features on the main stream 1911s (especially for the Canadian user). Good luck.

Everything you want but a tiny bit more than your budget (retail).

I have an STI Sentry. For the price, you wont get a better 1911. The build quality and fit & finish is on par with the hi end Dan Wesson Valor and very close to the Ed Brown Executive Target I've owned till I bought the STI, accuracy is also on par with the bigger names in 1911's...
