Buddy just bought a Rem 700 and picked up a Minox scope for it. The scope has a 50mm lens. He has decided he is buying Leupold bases and rings for it, but he can't get them locally. He wants to mail order but does not know what height of ring to get. This set up is different from anything that I have. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or know where I can source this info? He wants to gert the scope and low to the barrel as possible.

Thanks. G

Leupold has on their website a measuement for each ring ie .8 on a medium means .8 inch from top of the base ( ie picatinny ) to the center of the ring . Center is where the bottom half splits . Everything else depends on the objective clearing barrel , sights , bolt handle or whatever . I use a medium 30mm for a 40mm objective on my 5r.

If I know the thickness of the base we could probably take a good guess at what rings he needs. I searched it via Google and it looks like high rings are needed.

Thanks
