Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x52 price check?

I just picked up a nice mint Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x52 from my gunsmith. It had come from an estate, and had never been mounted. Box, paperwork, etc...

I paid $700 all in. How did I do?

Can I ascertain the date of manufacture based on the serial number?

Good deal. Need a picture to determine approximate age, but the 52mm is an older scope made for Zeiss by Hensoldt in Wetzlar, as was the Diavari 1.5-6x36.
Assuming this is a Diavari Z model. The newer Zeiss designed ones are 50mm objective, not 52. Regardless, a good price.

This is the model here (not my scope, it's with my gunsmith currently).

From what I can dig up on the net, it was made in the 80s. My copy is like new, never mounted.
 
I have a 1.5-6x36 model, looks very similar, but mine is a bit older yet, mid 70's. These were one of the first high end variables on the market. Great scopes and light years ahead of anything else available during that time, but not on par with newer model Diavari due to improved coatings available these days. Mine has the German #1 reticle, three thick posts. Definintely pre-1990, as it still says "West Germany". :)
Either way, you did well on a nice older Model Zeiss.

I'm not certain on the date, I've emailed Zeiss with model and S/N and hopefully they can tell me.

It's going on a mint Anschutz target rifle made in 1970 that I picked up earlier this year, so it should be a nice fit. :)
