New rimfire cartridge coming...

Looks like theyre hyping it up so it flies off the shelves as soon as its released: They make tons of money right off the bat even if its pure s**t! Seems unneccesary given you can simply upgrade to a bigger cartridge if your current setup is not working, I'd hate to see it become like all the short mags that showed up 10 years ago then fell off the face of the earth leaving owners with overpriced guns chambered in oddball cartridges. It better be a kickass bottleneck cartridge that lives up to all their marketing hype.

To be that flat a shooter, is it likely to fire a round heavier than 30-35 gr.? Even then, how much juice would it have to have behind it? Sounds like a .204 (as Jeepguy guessed) with maybe some new over-sized case/charge...? At the "speed" the new 17 Hornet is coming to market (or not coming to market) with 2 of the biggest names behind it..Hornady and Savage...I don't have much faith that this new "game changer" will on the shelves any time soon. Also, Winchester and "precision rimfire" aren't 2 words I ever expect to hear in the same sentence, so I wonder about any accuracy claims. Another thought.. 17HMR is about $15 a box, so add 15% and that's $17.25. People complain that premium .22WMR and .17HMR is knocking on the door of centerfire ammo costs, so I'd be curious to see what "niche" this fills. I've had my fill of rifles that shoot obscure ammo, so longevity would be real concern. Very interested in hearing more about this..in spite of my reservations and scattered thoughts. :)

The 17hormet is already in the market. I am waiting for the cz rifles to get here instead of the savages we have now.

Is Red Jacket producing yet another game changer?

I'm guessing a .20 cal in a proprietary case.

Within 10% of the most premium rimfire ammo will price it right about the point where it's cheaper to reload a small centerfire (with some time figured in), than purchasing this hot new round.

It's still good to see a new rimfire product come to market. The worst that can happen is it's actually successful!

The rifles are in Canada? I saw ammo on the shelf as early as August if memory serves (really remote, northern shop too) but was told at the time that they couldn't even place an order for the rifle from Savage. No dealer I'm aware of stocks them here but then again...I'm probably not buying one anyway. :)

Cabelas has had the savage model 25's for a few months now. Cz's are suppose to be released in January 2013

The article claims 500 fps faster than any other rimfire,, and the 17 HMR is about 2550 fps, so that means over 3000 at the muzzle.
i have my doubts, but I'll be looking for this at SHOT next month!

Maybe a .44 ?...

Nothing new there:
