Is 3.5" worth spending more money on?

There are 3 deer hanging in my friends drive shed right now that are proof positive that 18 pellets equals no tracking necessary. I spent a lot of time tracking wounded deer today hit with a couple pellets from 2 3/4" shells.

I like having the extra payload. It works nice for me in deer, coyotes (54 pellets in 4 buck), turkey, and goose. It's always the guys who don't have one that crap all over the 3.5".

Buy what suits you and live with your decision. The Internet is full of opinions including my own.

thats a bad pattrning buckshot/placement if only a couple pellets hit i use 0000 on deer 8 pellets of that drops them dead very time out of the 2 3/4" 12ga none the less

All it takes my friend is to get into a duck or goose blind some day with a guy that has a 10g and knows how to shoot it and you will quickly see why you will want one especially for pass shooting geese.
When we hunt the 12g guys shoot first and the dude with the 10g after they are done to clean up what is flying away.
10ga with high speed duplex reloads properly patterned are as good as the old BB lead and can smoke them out of range of any 12ga out there.
Hunting coyotes with them is another story. DEADLY but don't try to sell the pelt LOL

long gone are the days of lead shot though and the guns i have my eye on cant use steel

The "bad handling" gun that I referred to was a Browning BPS. I'm 6' tall and 200 lbs and it was way too big for me. In a very heavy and bulky double gun like a Browning Citori it makes no difference what the chamber length is - but then I have also got rid of the 2 Citori 12 ga 3" guns that I have owned because I didn't like the handling and fit. If you do have a lively and slim double chambered for 3.5" shells, ( like a Beretta) it will beat the crap out of you with the long shells and will ultimately be hard to hit with because of the recoil. I don't shoot semi autos so can't comment on them. A good semi auto that can handle all shell "lengths and loads" might just be the mythical do-all shotgun, but it's still a semi ... yuck! But that's just me. I just prefer short stroke, well balanced pumps and lively doubles.

Only good reason to shoot 3.5 is for turkey everything else too expensive and punishing

I don't find the cases of 250 rounds of 3.5 steel too expensive, running around $150... And my main waterfowl gun is a Baikal MP153 (semi) which takes the edge off the magnum 3.5 inch shells... I will agree with you when it comes to my Benelli Nova & 3.5 inch shells, it rattles the fillings out of my teeth sometimes!

And, 3.5 inch shells just let me toss more #2 size steel pellets at waterfowl, it's the only reason I use them...

Cheers
Jay
