IWI to open US manufacturing plant for Tavor and Uzi production.

Looks like some US retailers are already listing versions of the Tavor with 18" barrels for less than $2000. Canadian retailers take note. Perhaps irunguns.ca could start bringing these in at this lower price point. There is no way the other dealers in Canada could compete without dropping their prices as well if thus were to happen.

I doubt it unless they start shipping non-restricted barrel lengths.

Not surprising, actually. They can buy ARs for less than we can up here, without most of the restrictions we face. I would be hard pressed to buy a Tavor, XCR (bleh), RFB, SL8, and probably even Swiss if I could buy a quality non-restricted AR for half the price.

Agreed...and I'm a hardcore Swiss Arms enthusiast!

I wouldn't pay $2000 for a restricted rifle.. Your are looking at $2300 after tax and fees.

Ssshhh. Let them figure it out the hard way...
($2,000 + import/GST = $2,300 + custom NR barrel = $3,300+ ... )

And that assumes that the importer get s them at a low enough wholesale price to make any money on them retail at $2000 plus fees......If they go the 18 inch barrel route, there will be no effect in Canada with the exception of the new ones being permitted on a Form 6.

That extra half inch is a killer. This length was no doubt chosen very carefully to restrict as many firearms as possible.

I think it might have something to do with different kind of metric system.
18.5" is around 47cm. Canada "officially" use cm and not inches...

And Americans pick 18"... Cuz it looks nice? Dunno lol

I am pretty sure the americans picked 18" because less than that would make the firearm less than 26" overall length which I believe is a no no for americans.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
