(FN) Model 70 action lengths

A question about FN made Model 70 action lengths.

I just ordered a Model 70 ALASKAN in 375 H&H. I had the salesman measure the opening of the receiver and it measured 3 1/8". Conversely I had previously measured a SAFARI EXPRESS action at a local shop and it measured 3 3/8". I see in a previous M70 thread that PRE-64 M70's chambered in 375 H&H were built on standard length actions (I'm guessing 3 1/8").

Is this adequate? Seems like a short space to maneuver such a long cartridge. If it is long enough, why then would the Safari Express be built longer? Can I expect the .375 H&H to feed as smoothly as my .30-06 pre 64?

To confuse the situation even more, the tech guys at FN told me on the phone that the Alaskan in 375 H&H had the same action as the Safari Express...looks to me there is a 1/4" difference.

Could be wrong, but as far as I know the extra length for H+H length is gained from removing spacer at rear of mag-box and changing ejector/bolt-stop to allow bolt to travel rearward further before kicking shell out.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case, and are there any disadvantages to going this route? I'm thinking in terms of feeding and ejecting longer rounds like the tsx's for example, especially if you need to eject them when the bullet is still in the case.

With my rifle which was a factory .338WM, CRF long-action magnum model 70 pre-2006. It feeds and ejects perfectly even with 180gr. TTSX (rifle currently on the EE if you want to see pics and text...shameless plug I jnow).

That's encouraging, but not necessarily applicable as the 338wm is a long action cartridge while the 375 is a magnum length cartridge. And isn't 180gr awfully light for a 338 bore?
