Few years ago I have acquired a very nice Brno 581 semi-auto, dated 1975. Bore and bluing are both mint, the action works flawlessly and the stock has a very good finish - a typical semi-gloss field-ready with merely a few shallow nicks in the lacquer itself, no deep scratches or dents in the wood. The walnut has a pretty nice pattern to it and I was thinking of stripping it and refinishing with tung oil to bring out the depth and beauty of the wood.
I understand these rifles are somewhat collectible(?) so should I do it, or leave it original?
I came across a minty Brno Model5 with a nicely patterned satin-finish walnut stock that I will be getting shortly and the one in my possession would look so pretty next to it if it were matching.
I have quite a bit of experience with wood refinishing and I can definitely see the potential for a showpiece here... but will it affect its value?
This could be a start of a nice collection.
