Shorten PAL Approval Times

So mine said it was done and if it does not arrive in 2 weeks call etc. But i can call and purchase a firearm with just the number? Im a little bit worried on arrival date due to Christmas.

I think it depends on which CFO office and who you happen to get on the phone. I couldn't get the lady I spoke to at the BC CFO to give me my number even though the CFC had mailed my license to the wrong address and had to reissue it, their mistake, but nope, wouldn't give me my number, I had to wait for the card to get here.

As for purchasing with just your number, no card, again depends on the place, even online some want you to email or fax a copy of your card.
If you are buying restricted you will still have a wait before you can take the firearm home anyway the transfer paperwork has to be completed.
It's just a big waiting game....
 
Agreed with Karmadoc, the only thing to add is that if you already have a pal and are "upgrading" to an rpal, your number will be the same except for the last 4 digits will change. Example is if your card ends with .0001 it will now end with .0002 as this will be the second card issued to the license number. A current card that ends with .0002 will change to .0003 and so on.

Congrats! going to try my luck for interview today, i noticed my CC was charged 80$ for Rpal so i guess thats a good thing? With luck i can make next friday's printing as my 28 ends on the 19th(wed)
 
How long has it been taking since saying issued to getting to people in Ontario? 2 weeks?
Do they really only Print on Fridays? Do you have to sign for your card at post office or does it come just like a credit card in the mail?
 
UPDATE!
2012/11/21- PAL/RPAL delivered to MIRAMICHI! Still nothing on-line yet! Lets hope this process is a fast one lol! I will update as I go.

2012/12/11- Application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. Coming a long!!

2012/12/14- Called the RCMP to find out if any info was missing from my application everything was ok and did my interview over the phone! :D

If you get all your interviews done soon your license should be issued on the 19th...then it's all up to the pony express to deliver it

Mine said printed a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday and I received it the following Wednesday, so a week and 1 day.
 
Well, here is my R/PAL timeline so far. Unfortunately my 28th day will be on Christmas eve! I have a feeling the holidays are going to slow down my overall wait, but here's to hoping otherwise.

Courses completed Nov 17/18th
Mailed express post Nov 21
Received on Nov 26 (stupid weekend!)- don't say that too often!

Still waiting for it to show up online but I figure that should happen sometime this week.

Update; showed up online today. 19 days after they received it! Here we go!

Just called in and paperwork is all good!

You can probably try your luck next Wednesday for the interviews, it usually takes 2-3 days from when it shows up online to when they are ready. But yeah Christmas may slow things down a bit :)

The whole Christmas thing might be a blessing in disguise as I usually receive money. Its pretty easy to imagine what I might spend that money on! lol. Thanks for the tip, I'll call in Wednesday and test my luck.

As a general rule it seems like they're calling people for interviews on the first business day after your 28 days are up, so maybe be by the phone the 27th and 28th? I would hope they are working those days!

I suppose I could have asked if they were working through the holidays, was just too excited that my app showed up online today! Its been a painful wait since Ive been off work with a shoulder injury with nothing better to do but check online every couple hours! lol! CFC has my cell # cause I dont have a land line, its one phone call I'll be sure to not miss.

When i did my interview today i asked "what happens if they cant reach the references" the nice lady told me they would mail a form to them in about 10 days for them to fill out, basically the same questions as the interview. But who wants to wait another 10 days+ :) I can sympathize with checking online every couple of hours lol!

Did you request a file or extension # so your references could call in? And no, another ten days would be poopy! Im hoping to provide the necessary info to my references so they can call in when its convenient for them.

The only reference number your references need is the one you see on-line when your status appears there. There is no other magic number.
 
Ok heres my situation. Mailed off my forms which were recieved on oct 18. It apeared online on nov 6. I called miramichi offices to confirm everything was good which it was. Shortly after it changed to processing completed, now in progress yada yada. Ive called the alberta cfo office a few times and all they can tell me is my background checks are being done so please be patient. is there someone else i can call besides a secretary? im coming up on 60 days total for this from what ive read noone else had a wait like this.I have no criminal record checks.I was also wondering if you need to do interviews with the non restricted, one lady mentioned that i dont but im reading alot that have had them done. Thanks

File number is as nitpicker said. Extension number is 2533 when you have your references call in.
