New Norinco M305

Diablo9845:
Thanks for the kind words. If you are still considering a Norc shorty, don't get ONE!

You can see this coming.....

Get TWO of them at $400 a pop! I love my shorty withe the new SEI muzzle brake adapter. Makes me wanna shoot it at the CQB matches!!! I wanna be like TRShooter308, theduck, and JRWRCR who are experts at the M14 platform.

Cheers,

Barney

haha done and done! I'm already depressed it isn't even close to the start of the next CQB season yet though! I just have to find a dealer with one in stock now, I've been searching the EE but all I can find are M305 shortys for $500+ because they bolted on a cheap scope mount and test fired it ;)

Hungry, you da man!!! The awesomest of the awesome. You turned disappointment to a happy heart!
Aside from the machine marks (meh, it's a $450 rifle) everything is now nicely aligned and TIGHT! Can't wait to hit a range and start shooting it.

Hungry assures me my #### won't fall off, LOL!!!

THANK YOU so much, Hungry for helping me out with this.

For anyone who was curious, the rifle was purchased from Canada Ammo. Purchase was straight forward. Shiping was fast. My questions were promptly answered AND they offered to exchange the rifle at no cost. Needless to say, it won't be going back. :)

What about the " PING", did ya get the 'Ping " installed ?
Me.........Im one of the sad bastards at the range shouting "F--k you PING, F--k you PING, F--k you PING, F--k you PING, F--k you PING .......Awww sh-t still no ping ".
Bloody thing "Pingged " at the Tracy clinic, must have fell off in the car cos by the time I got to Gagetown it was very " UNPINGGY ". Strange cos its tighter than a ducks arse, no rattles and is hovering around the 1moa with handloads.

Glad to see your a happy dude now :) If I lived witin a 6 hour drive I' d be headin around to Hungry's with big puppy eyes and a 24, just to see if hes got any spare " pings " lying around. My world is soooooooo silent.

Nice one Hungry, paying it forward again :)

So, who else wants to visit me for an M14 tuneup? You are gonna do all the work, not me! LOL ha ha ha ha

I can attest to this! My Poly was on that very bench, and we (mostly me!) installed a nice USGI SA barrel, TRW gas system and FH, and Winchester bolt.

Then we went shooting!!

Update....

OddShot is on his way home as I type this. The re-index took longer to apply masking tape and clamp up the parallels. Photo to be posted soon by Oddshot when he gets home safely.

Gas cylinder shimmed with 2 shims x 8 thou and Oddshot used the Sadlak gas cylinder wrench to crank that lock down to the 6 o'clock position. Nice and snug. Yeah, we tried the 180 fix, but BOTH final position settled at 12 o'clock... go figure! :D

The flash suppressor was welded on Friday afternoon around 1500 because a few taps and it came off! :)

Op rod guide was loose as all the USGI 12.5 rifles I used to compete with (read: plays Jingle Bells when you shake the front end of the barrel). Hammered a bunch of dimples 360 degrees around the op rod guide on the barrel and re-installed after whacking it BACK into place with plastic hammer and flat punch. Tight as heck. No red Loctite needed. New pin 1/8" x 3/4" installed. Life is good.

Hammered the 3 splines on gas cylinder interface on the barrel , then hammered the 3 splines on the flash suppressor. Remember; never watch me put together a match rifle (read: HOLY Hammer used) :dancingbanana:

Greased the entire rifle where it was needed and then greased the trigger group at the sear and hammer interface, hammer face and nose. Trigger was smooth from the high school shop class. Not bad, I say. I was impressed

Here's the biggest surprise.... The rear sights worked. Holy feces!

No need to rush out and buy Italian sourced M1 Garand rear sight knobs YET!

This rifle is a keeper! Damn... I never shoulda revealed these 'green light' discoveries. I shoulda offered him $ 300 CASH (Like Oliver Jewelry in Toronto, I'm da KashMan.... I give you money for your old gold, OH YEAH!). You Toronto dudes know how annoying those TV adverts are! :nest:

Now he has to smooth things out by firing 300 x 7.62mm MFS through that barrel while simultaneously yelling, "Fzck you, GI!" just like in "Defense of Firebase Gloria" movie with R Lee Ermey. LOL

So, who else wants to visit me for an M14 tuneup? You are gonna do all the work, not me! LOL ha ha ha ha

Return? Weeee don't need no stinkin' return (back to the dealer, I mean) !!

Cheers all,

Barney

I'd drop by tonight with a 24 of beer if I lived within a hundred miles of you. :) I don't mind getting my hands dirty, it's most of the fun involved.

I just ordered a shorty from them, I hope I don't have the same problem as you(sorry) but if I do it's nice to see they have good customer service. I am glad you got your rifle fixed

no worries! I hope you don't have any problems with your purchase either.

please post your findings here. I'd like to know.

I got my shorty a few weeks ago. Barrel is properly indexed, op rod guide is nice and tight. Gas system does need to be shimmed though. I'm super happy, got a orsg from m14.ca and a set of USGI sights from treeline.com. Next up: a Boyd's stock.

Oddshot I'm glad you have your issues sorted out. Hungry is the righter of all wrongs with these rifles. If shes a good shooter, think about what you can do with the 2000 dollars left over you didn't have to spend. I've put around 800 through mine with nary a hiccup. Loads like lightning with strippers, watch your thumb, and best fun for full power Battle Rifle. The SKS is cheaper to buy and shoot and is of course well made, but this is a NATO battle rifle copy, .....that's us you know, Cold War Warrior.;)

A range report would be nice to see how she performs, and of course to help with any other issues that should arise. The Chinese M-14 group are tight.

I'd buy an LRB myself if money was absolutely no issue, I really would, if nothing but for a comparison and of course what could possibly be wrong with all those top of lines parts,...... but you know I got the M-14 which rocks, a Lee-Enfield No4 Mk2, last of the series and a terrific shooter, a lovely matching No1MkIII LSA from the great war and an SKS which we love as well, for less money than 1 LRB. Do I need to say more?

I am glad to hear your indexing worked out.:D:D:D

One of my first two had the flash hider offset so far I chopped the barrel and made a shorty out of it. That worked out well enough that I chopped the third one as well.

You know, price aside, I still think it's a disgrace that these rifles are so poorly put together.
My mass produced $400 Remington 870 pump, My $200 Ruger 10/22 and my $500 Ruger Mini-14 (at the time) had WAY WAY better fit and finish than these Norinco's (and according to some board members: some Springfield Armory M1A's).

It just seems shockingly inconceivable that they could willingly produce firearms with such shoddy attention to alignment.

Tell you what, bring that gun over. We will tie it and the m305 to the back of my quad and take them for a good toot.

My shoddy gun will still shoot, I'm not to certain about your gun

Hey hey now! Woah! Let's not get too dramatic! I didn't say I hate my M305...just wished it was finished better and couldn't understand why it couldn't be.

There need not be any throwing of cherished rifles beneath ATV's. Banish the thought. ;)

Once you actually study what is actually needed to produce a barrel with so many cuts and holes that need to be timed, you will realize that most of the 400 are actually for the barrel.

If it was produced to your standards it would cost 1200 from the get go or 2300 like the properly done american ones.

But really, how hard is it to make sure the barrel is properly indexed and the sights are cut square. Would that really impact the cost that much?

I had a design to correct this issue. To bad that the person is to busy bringing in FDE glocks and working on importation projects to get back to makeing something like this cause he doesn't think there are that many nork's out there with screwed up spline way cuts.

So I finally got around to getting the Norinco M305 to the range today.
Didn't have much time, so was only able to put a couple boxes of 20 rounds through it.

Surprisingly, my Norinco shot well. Recoil was much lighter than I expected.

Without any fiddling, and without much effort (I haven't shot in awhile) I was able to get 1.5 to 2 inch groups at 50 yards off the benchrest.

I'm quite happy with that, for now.

I am quite pleased with this rifle. Life is good. :)
