New rimfire cartridge coming...

Oh i dont even know what it is and i want it. I think a 20 cal has already come and gone that would be the 5mm remington mag and that has come and gone i have one and haven't been able to find shells for quite some time Canada ammo had some but I missed out and they are now sold out but I am hoping they get some more. I would like to see the 25 rimfire come back but it's ballistics would be no where is near this. Maybe they will take the idea I have had for years and neck the 25 rimfire down to 22 and call it the 22-250 rimfire. Or maybe this will be some form of 243 using 55 grain bullets. Oh how the suspense is killing me whatever it is will fit in nicely with my other in rimfire firearms. I currently have a 22 lr, 17 Mach 2, 17 HMR, 22 mag, 5 mm Remington mag and a 9mm flobert so I can't wait.

Prophet River has the 5mm ammo sometimes.

I have been trying to find a 22 TCM reamer, and reloading dies so I can build a bolt action rifle around this neat little round. Since I haven't seen anyone else offer one yet.

It's like you're reading my mind. If you get it built, be sure to post.

I for one am not the slightest bit interested in the new rimfire. The main reason is that I can already load my 22Hornet, or the new 17Hornet for almost the same price as the 17HMR, and the new rimfire ammunition will supposedly cost even more than the 17HMR factory loads. Either the 22Hornet, or the 17Hornet will outperform the new rimfire, for a comparable price, so I will stick with the Hornets.

yes but Hornets are centerfire correct? If so, they fall under the same rules as other center fire, ie low capacity magazines for semi auto.

If the new rimfire is actually viable, powerful and cheap, the magazine limits as they stand are still not neutered for them.

You are assuming that the new cartridge will actually be available in semi auto rifles, and given the problems with semi autos in 17HMR, and 17Mach2, that may or may not happen. As for myself, I have never bought into the tactical craze, or to the spray and pray mentality, so the centerfire magazine capacities are adequate for my uses.

As I posted previously:

And if someone does start selling high powered rimfires with large capacity magazines, it likely wouldn't take our government long to respond with even more regulations, possibly putting a magazine capacity on some, or all rimfires.

I would be all over this, the 17 HMR is pretty decent out to 150 yards then it drops off, sooner if the wind is up.

Doubt a bottleneck round will make it to a blowback semi-auto, not a good track record on that.

What I have been desiring is a round, with similiar ballistic curve to the 17 HMR but in a heavier bullet. I no longer have the option to reload so while the 17 Hornet sounds like a great combo, factory ammo is just to much.
