It's time for a new 45 ladies and gents! I've narrowed down my choices to the FNP and USP. I have plenty of trigger time on steel frame 45's but not poly and think its about time. So I'm looking for some input here from members who own or have own these two models and have had some decent amount of time behind these two pistols. I am not a competition shooter so they would be used as range toys only. How's their serviceability? Comfort in shooting? Things along those lines. Just need some help being pushed in the right directions. Thanks all who reply!!

Had em both... liked the FNP better... more ergonomic than the USP (for me anyway). I actually sold them both and moved to the HK45... no regrets at ALL!!! Much more comfortable to shoot, but a little pricier.

I'm thinking FNP just due to the price, gives me some spare cash for ammo! What were the attributes that were liked about the FNP?

Better trigger. Ambi controls. More comfortable grip (different back straps was nice). Sights I found better than my usp as well.

You won't go wrong with either choice. If you can try them both first, it might be an easier decision!

Between the two...go with the USP...OR skip that route and grab an HK45 when you can!!! The HK45 is ambi with its mag/slide release and you can get an ambi safety/decocker if you want it and has a less bulky grip then the FNP.

I have had both...sold the FNP and still have the USP 45 (Tactical) and I now have an HK45 and my love for that gun is...legendary!!! :p I don't sleep with it under my pillow, it goes on top of it!!! :)

Good gun...

I wish I could, I'm in rural SK and there are no shops around well none that are within a six hour drive that have any. The closest I've found for one or the other are Prophet River and Wolverine.....

Hard choices here folks as I feel I cant go wrong with either! What ever I decide on I'll take pics and post a range report when I do! Well after I get out of my cast suffering a broken wrist right now!
Thank you very much to all who have posted. Input is always appreciated here.
Happy holidays all!

Ya, the more I shoot my HK45 the more I like it. What a great pistol! So easy to shoot it good that it even makes a weekend warrior type guy like me look like I know what I'm doing! If you're debating a HK pistol in 45acp there is no second guessing which one you should consider in my opinion. After handling a USP45 the other day I'm sure glad I bought the HK45 sight unseen. Around 1400 bucks though...and mags are 85/ea....

Nothing wrong with the FNP45 if it fits your budget better. If I were to buy another polymer 45 that's the one I'd get. I haven't heard anything negative about them.

I own a USP .45. It was my favourite gun before I owned one, and still is now that I own one.

Off the bat, I'll admit that I have never shot a FNP.

I can attest that the USP .45 is one if the best shooters that I HAVE shot. Really soft shooting. Put over 500 rounds down the pipe over a weekend and didn't even have hand fatigue.

If this were the states, from an objective point of view, the FNP holds 3 extra rounds in the mag, comes with a threaded barrel and already comes set up for mounting a RDS. Nice features and I do like the FDE aspect.

However! To date (IMHO) nothing beats the recoil reduction system. I can't describe just how remarkable it is. For me, with slightly larger than average hands, the USP feels great. I personally like the mag extensions for the base plates. People complain about the lack of universal rail, but the sure fire MR09 fixes that up no problem. Night sights can be had, the gun will last for 100 lifetimes.

It is not uncommon for USP .45s to go hundreds of thousands of rounds without a part malfunction or breakdown with proper cleaning.

Tigger on the USP is fine. It's a battle pistol, not a match gun. Keep that in mind. Part availability isn't the best, but I don't know about the FNP. There is HK Parts in the states which makes everything easier on us HK owners.

Both seem like nice guns. For Canada, I think the choice is clear. However even if this was the states I'd still go for the USP. But I am part German and biased.

Just some thoughts.

Well folks I have decided on which I am going to buy. I have gone with the USP but there is a catch. I have decided that since I'm going with the more expensive firearm I'm going with a forty due to the abundance and price of it in my area. I already own a few forty's and have plenty of the ammo for it laying around it, that and I reload for the forty. I thank all who responded to the thread and to those who pm'd me. Forgive my betrayal to the 45(have two 45's). Merry Christmas all!!!!!!!

Let me know how the USP recoil system handles the .40 rounds. I have always been interested in that.

Well folks I finally got my pistols! That is right I said pistols! I had decided on the HK USP but in 40 instead and I received it today and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but will post a report on it. I will say this the grip on it is wonderful. It is longer across than most but very very thin for a double stack. I'd say as thick as a 1911 with rubber grips on it. Now for the second pistol. My gf decided to surprise me Christmas morning with an FNP 45. I GOT BOTH! LUcky me! I will post reports on both after I heal from a broken arm. Cheers all!
