Hey guys, I am in the market for a 9. I wont be doing any competitive shooting but want a good accurate pistol. I have approximately 1000 dollar budget, I like the CZ shadow, but am just curious what are the other options? This will be my first 9, I have 4 1911s(in the only caliber that 1911s should be....45) and wouldnt mind some cheaper shooting. I do like all steel pistols but its not a must, I am not a glock fan though.

for all metal guns, browning hp, beretta 92 series, sig 226 (prob not under 1000) or cz

see if you can try these out some where and get the one you like best

or if you like 1911's so much get one in 9mm.

I used to think the S&W M&P was a cheap gun... that and I don't like black handguns !!

After having shot my neighbors I changed my tune.... I was more then surprised at how well it was designed, how reliable it was, how accurate it was and how quickly I adapted to it, 2 mags and I was sighted in...

I now call it a very well priced gun ;O)

I've shot 2500-3000 round threw my m&p and couldn't be happier I've Mabey had a handful of malfunctions if that. I looked at glocks didn't like them felt chunky to me .I love how you can change the back straps on the m&p and the fact that the back straps have the side palm swells makes it a super comfortable firearm to handle. It's true tho glock owners like glock m&p owners like m&p but I've shot both and fell m&p takes the win comfortable, affordable and reliable, looks bad ass to. Also like the range kits they got to.

All steel I would recomend a CZ 85 Combat. Well priced, accurate and dead nuts reliable. For polymer I would go with the M&P either the 4.25" FS or the 5" Pro.
Better ergonomics than the Glock with an all steel embedded chassis which reduces flex found in polymer guns. Extremely reliable, with excellent combat accuracy.

I love my M&P, didnt care for it much at first but after I learned how to shoot (it was my first hand gun) i like it more and more every time I take it to the range. On average I put 50 or 60 rounds though it every time I take it out.

I had a S&W M&P 40 and did not like the grip (compared to my G21). I can see how they might be comfortable for some/most. The length of pull is key. The last section of your index finger should be in contact with the trigger. I would recommend holding several models and confirming length of pull before purchasing.

The Jericho 941 is economical and very fun to shoot, an excellent overall pistol. I don't own one because I don't like slide-mounted safeties, but if this isn't an issue for you, it is absolutely a gun to look at seriously. They are commonly being sold with range kits now, too, so the value is definitely there. I have no idea how many thousands of rounds my friend's Jericho has discharged without a hiccup, and he is not a very diligent gun care guy. It seems it could do atmospheric re-entry and still function.

For all metal, Sig 226 ($800 reconditioned or $879-975 new) or Shadow ($739.99 @ CRAFM) is probably the best buy in this category. If you love the 1911 platform, there are 9mm versions available. HK USP is getting out of your price range, but it's a great gun. The 226 will feed 9mm from 40cal mags and give you a legal 13 or 14rd capacity... have heard that the USP will also do the same.

Questar has only a few 226's left in stock, they have 15% off right now, with the checkout code on their site... a 226 9mm with night sights shipped to your door for about $1050.

adding a 9mm when you are used to a 1911 will require attention to the trigger to ensure you are happy, IMO.

if you go M&P get an Apex kit in the desired pull weight to upgrade, worth the $$$. I did, and now I am happy, before, not so much . . .

How is that legal? The limit is 10 regardless of caliber for restricted.

No this again.

Yup. You just have to love the internet and ignore most of the quasi legal opinions. My sense is we are about to enter the world of drama queens and reindeers.

MY CZ 9MM loves my .40 cal mags with 12 rounds of 9MM in them. Just not sure why I need 12 rounds. Unless of course there is some truth to the Zombie rumour...you hear anyting in that regard John?

Capacity is 10 according to what caliber the mag was designed for. If 9mm fits in a 10rd 40cal mag and works, legal. If you don't believe, do a search.

Some models work with this, others don't. Sig 226 works flawlessly with the factory 40 mags.

I luv my 9mm M&P, Bought it in the Carry and Range kit, comes with case, 3 different palm swells, 3 mags,Blade-Tech holster, double mag pouch, speed loader, just over $700 tax included. Great price, great firearm.
