What side............?

Do you put your scope clamping hardware on?
I have seen them this side, that side and this/that side.
I have a tendency to put the retaining screws on the left side
of the receiver for some reason.
Why clutter up the bolt handle side?
Is there a right and or wrong way of doing this?
Sort of like wearing a tie or bow tie?

I'm interested in your version and why you opt the side you do.....

I usually try to avoid scope mounts that have big side mounting hardware. Leupold STD bases or talley's are usually worn on my guns. But for the few that have weaver bases I tent to mount them on the left side, just like you said, so the bolt side doesn't get cluttered up. However I did have one set of rings that had quite bulky clamping screws so I put them on the bolt side because I felt as though they were so bulky that I'd rather have the left side look clean and let all the clutter happen on the bolt side. Just weird preferences

If there's a chance that the style of ring might result in a slightly offset mount, like Weavers, then I put the clamp on the side away from my cheek. If it's going to be offset at all, then I want it toward me, not away. Other than that, I put the more appealing side on the bolt side. That's the side you're most likely to show (off) to your buds.

x2. Even a slight offset to the left can make a difference with bolt handle clearance. The mounts I use have rings intentionally offset 3mm to the left, for better bolt handle clearance of ocular covers and fat thumbs... Does it affect the accuracy? If sighted in "perfectly" (???) at 150 yards, the bullet will have traveled extra 3mm to the right at 300 yards. I can live with that, given the benefit of extra space when cycling the bolt.
