What type of 30.06?

As above, spend some time looking at as many different rifles as you can, its half the fun ! All of the rifles mentioned are good serviceable firearms, but handle them first. I garauntee you will find one that just feels more " right " than the others. Pick a good quality scope and you'll be set for any hunting situation you're likely to encounter.

I have owned several bolt action 30-06 rifles over the years Ruger, Remington, Husky etc your choice in cartridge is a good one for anything you will ever encounter while hunting.

In Oct I bought/put together my latest rifle a stainless steel T/C Prohunter single shot with barrels in 30-06 and 375H&H I sent both of the 28" barrels to Guntech on Vancouver Island here in BC and had him shorten them from 28" - 22".

I am now loading 165gr Nosler Accubonds @ 2850fps in the 30-06 my son has already used it with excellent success on 2 nice coastal blacktail the overal weight of the rifle with the 30-06 barrel/scope installed is 7.7lbs the overal length of the rifle is 4" shorter than my 20" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 30-06 = a short/light fast handling rifle.
