Shortest legal tactical shotgun?

Anybody know off the top of their head of the most compact and still legal tactical pump shotgun? Is 18" the shortest barrel allowed in Canada? Is there also a minimum overall length?
 
8.5" barrel on an 870 Action with a full stock to best of my knowledge.

Any barrel length is legal IF the barrel is manufactured that way, and not a cut down or "sawed off", at least for shotguns.

As long as it remains over 26 inches over all length it is all good.

My 12.5" measures in around 29 inches with an M4 stock on it in the closed position.

So reading the RCMP information isn't helping me then...

I'm probably interpreting it incorrectly, but this is what I was basing my question on:

Restricted firearms include:

•handguns that are not prohibited;
•semi-automatic, centre-fire rifles and shotguns with a barrel shorter than 470 mm;

I took this to mean the barrel had to be longer than 470mm.

I have a lot to learn obviously.
 
you are confusing pump shotguns with semi auto shotguns . barrels on semi auto shotguns and center fire rifles must be over 18.5 inches to remain unrestricted . on manually operated guns barrels can be shorter if they are factory made .
 
Farmer, do you have the source for that? It's my understanding (from my now-lost RCMP sheet) that NR firearms must retain an overall length of 26", but the sheet did not stipulate that the barrel must make up 18.5" of that length.

Overall length must be at least 66cm and barrel must be at least 47cm long to be non-restricted. As for manuals, I don't recall seeing anything. Just for semi-autos to remain NON-Restricted.

Pretty much the same thing, finish is a bit rougher and you may need to do a little filing on some areas to make your gun as reliable as a factory remington.

Trigger groups, barrels and just about every other part are interchangeable, I think the only difference in some of the guns is the threading on the stock main bolt.

I'm pushing 26 thousand rounds through my Griz 12.5" and don't have any problems. I got it in the first batch of guns that showed up in country.
 
let me try again. any semi auto other than rim-fires must have a barrel length over 18.5 inches to remain unrestricted . manually operated rifles and shotguns are exempt from the 18.5 inch barrel length as long as the barrel is factory made. the law is confusing but you must focus on the fact that semi auto center fire and manual guns have separate rules . semi auto rim-fires are exempt from barrel and magazine limits .Noltz you are right that a non resricted gun does not need a 18.5 inch barrel if it is manually operated or rim-fire .clear as mud eh .there are no laws that i am aware that prevent a manually operated rifle or shotgun being manufactured at a shorter length than 26 inches otherwise the mares leg would not exist .
 
Yeah dlask 6.5 would be about the shortest. The 8.5 grizzly would be about the shortest widely commercially available short unit. However the 8.5 barrel will not fit a regular 870, on account of the shorter barrel ring. 12.5 is the shortest drop in barrel I know of for a regular 870.

And yeah the black shotgun forum would be a better place for this, but looks like we found it anyways.

Doesn't catch on everything when you are out hiking, lot quicker to get on target, less weight.

The guns shoot great, I can hit milk jugs at 150 yards with mine. I'll get a video made up some time for everyone showing what the gun can really do.
 
the stock bolt on my 8.5 is the same thread as a rem 870 i just put a stock on using a rem bolt. im sure there is some velocity loss judging buy the big fireball you get. i use mine for hiking and on the quad. only thing id change is an aluminum recever but there arnt any of those in canada as far as i know
