I shoot at a range which does not allow anything larger than .223 and I want to buy a rifle that I can use at the range, insteading of paying extra to use their firearms and ammo.
After some research I have narrowed my choices to the CSA vz.58 Sporter and the Ruger Mini 14... so please feel free to give your opinions regarding which one is more fun (a good "bang") and reliable (less likely to have issues such as jamming).
Thanks ahead of time to anyone who shares their opinion and experience with these rifles.

Sounds like your range is a bit ignorant. If its rated for 223 then it can handle 7.62x39. You sure they don't have a ban on steel core/jacketed ammo? Either way the vz trumps the mini all day and twice on sunday.

I agree TDC but the range has both restrictions... nothing larger than .223 and it has to be frangible as well.

Thanks for all the replies everyone... it seems the CZ is the clear favourite

Neither, and here's why.

That frangible ammo is $1.50 a round, so if you're feeling like running your rifle, say 50 rounds - a modest day at the range, that's going to cost you $75!!!

I have a 9mm AR and I can blast away 250 rounds for the same money, at the same club, guessing you're at Target.

The money saved on avoiding frangible will buy you a new gun, every year, easily, and that's if you only shoot 50 rounds a month.

I did the math when I joined the club, which is only 15 min away from me, so if you want to shoot a rifle, indoors, in centre-fire, a pistol calibre is the way to go.

Plenty of options, shoot the .223-fmj at an outdoor range.

Buy the vz58. It looks like an AK. While the Mini14 looks like an M1 carbine.
Actually . . . just buy an M1 carbine . . .

That's one reason I like the Mini14, looks like the M1 Carbine but with more punch. Wish the Mini could have a 10rd mag though.
Also, I think 30 carbine ammo is harder to come by, and pricier though.

Back to the OP. Both rifles are great, but limited accuracy potential. About equal in that dept.
